In the future, market forces (read: what people prefer to buy) will dictate what kind
of products (including cars) are available! Wait…..that’s exactly how it works now.
EVs are inherently much, much simpler machines than ICE-powered vehicles.

Once the major auto manufacturers (not Tesla) also get a few years of large-scale EV’s manufacture under their belts and after charging facilities are more common, anyone who is actually concerned about reliability will buy an EV over an ICE vehicle. The opinion of a mechanical engineer, for what it’s worth.

Your EV takes are incredibly ignorant. You need to look at cost curves. EVs are going to be considerably cheaper than ICE cars. How much were flat big screens TVs when they first came out? How much are they now? EV sales are growing exponentially. When the supply chains and manufacturing matures and competition grows as more manufacturers enter the market the costs will continue to drop. There already are 200+ mile EVs at comparable prices to ICE cars. EVs are a much simpler machine to build so they will be cheaper.
Just a matter of time.

I doubt it!!!!! The current electrical nationwide grids can barely handle what current customers need/require. Second, the cost of an electric car is outrageous $45-60,000
plus paying to have a line installed at your home… God forbid if you live in an apartment, then what?

Apartment complexes don’t have charging stations. The replacement tires are way more than a standard car! $$$ The driving range is terrible. Most dealers don’t have a mechanic fix or repair them. And if a battery goes it’s about $29,000 to replace them. It will never happen. Toyota is already building a hydrogen car in production as we speak. And btw..
if and when the car catches on fire, they can’t extinguish a lithium fire, your car will be a total loss. $$&&$

Oh one more thing, in 1919 an auto small startup company made the electric horseless carriage and it died. Ford made the model, and it went way farther than the EV pos.
So over 100 years they want to bring it back again. You can’t fix stupid. Jay Leno has
one of the original 1919 crap cars hence 100 year later renewables are not carbon free!

All they need to do is figure out how to keep those “super cheap” electric cars from catching on fire. Just because you live in a rural area you should not ignore the majority who don’t. EVs make perfect sense for the small commute that most people use their cars for. On the point of quality, I find Chinese made things I use extremely well made and very cheap to own. I lived in a Van 2 to 4 days a week and came back to my condo on the weekend. The outrageous cost of housing forces me to do this, someone who makes a measly 90k a year can’t afford a small house/decent apartment within 1 hours commute of their Seattle job. My Van doesn’t get very good gas mileage but I actually save on gas because I’m only doing the big commute once or twice a week.
Last I checked there weren’t any affordable electric Vans. There is also no way to charge an EV at my condo, EVs don’t have the range I need, they are way outside my budget and I’m worried millions of EVs being plugged in at night will overload the power grid. I study weather as a hobby and really want to stop global warming but I won’t be giving my gas car up anytime soon and forcing me to give up my gas car will only result in riots/voting for the other party.

My 2005 Saturn engine – Search (bing.com) is still running great at 277,000 miles.
2.2 liter, 4cyl, 5speed manual. I’ve heard it’s a Honda engine, and I’ve heard it’s a Toyota engine. Whichever it is, it runs great! No FOB, no ABS, key in the door, key in the ignition. Vue had an optional Honda v6. But the Ecotec 2.2 is a GM product.

If you do the math, hybrids get better gas mileage than EVs. Adjusted for a full 1000 range tank, prius will cost $66 if gas is at $3/gal. 22galx45mpg=990 mile range. EVs get 3 miles per kwh. National average is 16 cent per kwh at home. 100kwh=300miles=$16. x3= $48. BUT outlets at home only charge at 2kw per HOUR (6 miles lol). Any supercharger will cost about 24 cents per kwh, which is $72. 6 dollars more than it would cost to fill a prius. All of you EV bros are getting ripped off having to drive something super expensive with less mile fuel range, longer refilling time, and way harder to find stations to charge at.
And a depreciating value faster than Leonardo’s girlfriends.

I prefer GM cars built in 1971 and later with crumple zones, side beams and KIA-crushing bumpers. I remember when a nice house was $60k and a new car was $4k. My first house was $71k. It wasn’t huge but it was big enough for my wife and I and our son.
We lived in that house for 7 years and sold it for $104k.
They shouldn’t try to force stuff on people. Let the people drive whatever they want, and if the people decide to drive electric, so be it. Likewise, if people decide to drive gas cars, so be it.

What if people are propagandized and lied to so their wants and desires are steered
in a certain direction? This is why appealing to consensus is a fallacy. Doesn’t matter.
People will ultimately do the test run and decide in the long run on whether they want to keep doing gas cars or electric cars. Coercion between the government and corporations.
They always project. It’s called corporatism or fascism.

Scotty is right. I can’t afford to trade cars every few years.
Therefore, I have to keep them for a long time, take care of them, and drive my money out of them. And I’ve been afraid to buy a gasoline car for 3 years now, because I worry that they will tax the stew out of gasoline in order to force people into electric ones.

It snows and sometimes gets under 10°F in the winter and over 100°F in the summer here. EV’s wouldn’t charge or hold a charge in this area. Cell phones give messages on the screen when left in the car that it’s too cold or hot to use. Those EV’s are a joke. Hot wheels toys are more reliable.

Then how are all those EVs driving around in Canada and Arizona/Texas? My Ford Mach-E has done as well at 20 degrees as 95. There was a small percentage of range loss at really cold temps, but, drove just fine from Seattle to Portland and most the way back….

I’d love to see how many are stranded in subzero Fahrenheit temperatures.
They couldn’t make it 50miles in weather at 2-5°F! When they are in suitable
temps they take how many hours to fully charge?

Just heard on the news; many insurance companies are now cancelling homeowners’ coverage if they’ve installed a solar panel array on their roof. Also Turns out the panels,
in some cases, cause roof damage, and to replace the roof, the panels obviously have to be completely removed and then reinstalled. A huge increase in labor and the cost to install the new roof.

GM built 50 EVs in the 90s. I think. GM realized that they made huge mistakes and decided to crush all 50 EVs. Relax, it’s just a car… but we don’t have the electrical grid to support 100,000,000 cars charging at one time. There are 278,000,000 registered cars
in the United States. It’s quite possible that 100,000,000 of them would need gas on the same day or electricity if they were E/V’s. Leading us back to the same dilemma, where is all of this juice going to come from and where is the electrical grid to support that load? The short answer is, it doesn’t exist.

I remember when a new car could be financed for 48 mos. Used car for 36 mos. That gave the consumer a chance to pay off the car in a reasonable amount of time, then even go a few months without a payment and prep for the next car. But now, with financing going 72/84 mos, that’s a difficult proposition these days. 5:45 That type of stuff will never fail to make me laugh, haha. Please never stop making these videos, Scotty.

The Volvo P-1800 was a high water mark for engines, for sure.
Another excellent and lasting value has been Ford Mustangs with 6 Cylinder engines.
In Atlantic Canada where sea & road salt rusts cars, Mustangs dating from 1996 onwards are still happily driving down our roads. We see lots from 1999 to 2015. Yes the Mustang, especially with the V6, is a long lasting car. An EV might work as a short trip commuter but don’t expect it to be less costly than a gas vehicle as first off you will pay more for it and it is highly unlikely that the EV will outlast a gas vehicle of the same size.


Once the batteries are weak…it’s finished. A 17-hour drive

My niece asked my opinion about a 2013 hybrid. I told her to assume the battery needed to be replaced at that age and the cost was 4 to 7K from what I was seeing. Then I suggested that if she gets a hybrid or EV every 300 miles she puts the equivalent money of $3/gal in the bank toward a battery in the future. Bottom line is pay now or later. There is no free ride and if you drive a Tesla you need to put $4 a gal or you will not save enough.
I don’t see myself buying a used hybrid or EV unless I see an allowance made for battery replacement.

2012 Chevy volt hybrid. Battery still has 97% of original charge. 39 miles and 38 miles now (I can get 45-50 miles if I’m trying)….11 years later. Depends if the batteries are cooled and heated properly. Chevy volts are. Also, I live in Indiana so it experienced everything from -20F to 108°F. I average 650mpg. In the summer I use 0 gas. In the winter I typically use
8 gallons total. I drive 10,500 to 11,500 miles a year.

 I think you’re forgetting one thing my friend. It’s called We the People
and if we the people don’t want to buy electric cars we’re not going to
and nobody’s going to make you do anything because we are Americans.

I work for a trucking company right now we are hauling ground stabilization material we are going to all these tremendously huge job sites for Ford and Honda and you would not believe how big these EV plants are for electric cars they’re dumping billions of dollars in them all of it as government money to my understanding so they’re going to be pushing these electric cars very hard what’s funny on the job site you don’t see any electric trucks

I drive a 94 HONDA Accord with my 300 pd brother and all our stuff in the car we average about 24mpg

The days of the automotive industry cranking cars out like hotcakes and people buying them up I think that it’s maybe not completely over but I believe that it is toned down so a lot of people say well why are the car companies moving towards electric cars if nobody’s really enthusiastic about them at this point in time… There again at some point you’re going to have to start a production if that’s really where it’s headed.

The other thing is automotive industry has always done their best to deal with if not even possibly Dodge EPA regulations to go electric as soon as possible would mitigate a lot of those feel consumption rules now that said that maybe a short-sighted short-term solution because in the future what the hell’s in is the government going to turn around and impose upon electric cars you know we’re going to have to go to paper mache tires at some point?

I mean who knows what they have in store you know I can remember 16 years ago or so when they decided to ramp up the production of corn to make gasohol. And of course everybody was hoping that that would shut up the environmentalist for 5 minutes at the time I predicted that it’s not going to shut them up they’ve pushed for it they believe it’s cleaner etc but once you implement that then they’re going to find all these problems with it which is exactly what they did.

I mean the cost of a new vehicle no matter if it’s gasoline or electric is frankly out of most people’s reach even through financing it’s out of reach I mean we’re talking about you know rent going up on the cheap you can find yourself a hole in the wall apartment located in the ghetto for 8 to 900 dollars even in a place like Central Ohio so where the hell then are you coming up with the other four or $500 a month for a car payment and that’s standard now.

So I think that in the long run the automotive manufacturers are not really concerned with a drop in production simply because we’re already there we’ve been there they’ve basically come around to accepting the fact that their production lines are basically going to slow down so if they can crank out 10,000 cars a year versus 60,000 cars a year and the sales numbers are going to be about the same.

Within say maybe a 5 to 10,000 sales variance there’s no difference the problem would be what it cost to build the electric car versus the gasoline car but of course that’s mitigated through government programs and incentives and that’s a lot of what they’re chasing that’s pretty much who’s going to end up building those production lines the government is going to fund it.

Basically about every industry is subsidized and one form or another at this point so they’re not necessarily worried they still have to make a profit but you know here’s the deal you know it’s the way the income deficiency across the population is and that’s getting worse all the time you know to be honest even GM is headed to a position to where they’re only going to be able to make what 3500 cars a year to realistically sell them so if they switch over to electric and you still have the same 3500 vehicles to sell what’s the difference you’re not in the heyday anymore either way you cut it that’s basically what’s happening so my examples might be bad but I’m hoping that you get at least the gist of what I’m saying!

The average new car price is now over $47,000. The average price of a new EV vehicle is now nearly $59,000. The price of a new petroleum powered truck can easily top $80,000! You should be more honest when you talk about the price of an EV. The truth of the matter is that nearly ALL new vehicles have outrageous pricing.

In reality, the cheaper cars are only cheap by comparison.
People driving clunkers now are just as likely to be a middle class person as they are to be a below middle class person. Were the government to offer financial incentives, in which Congress would have to approve, to trade in a petroleum powered vehicle for an EV vehicle then this would help to lessen some of the financial pain to get into an EV vehicle.

No one has to like it, but EV’s will be a significant part of future personal transportation needs, for no other reason than necessity as fossil fuels keep rising in price. Why don’t you have serious talks as to WHY new vehicles are so expensive these days, Scotty? It is easily due to the fact that it is capitalists practicing capitalism. Capitalism is, BY FAR, the greatest economic system ever devised by man, but it can also be as flawed as man is.

The problem with Socialism is socialism. The problem with Capitalism is capitalists greed.
I live not far from where you used to live when you lived in Houston, Scotty. Over the past 2 years I have seen a noticeable increase in new EV vehicles in the Houston area, and most of them have been Tesla vehicles. It is the future, Scotty. You are right to complain about the cars of today, but we cannot bring back the past. I would love to go back to the days where you could walk into a dealership and order a car with the exact options that you wanted instead of having to buy a “package” to get the one option that you actually wanted. The Cancer Journey

How you can find hope in every season of your cancer journey.

The experience of cancer is not often as simple as diagnosis,
cure and return to “normal” life. Often the cancer journey winds
and twists ahead, seemingly never reaching the horizon.
To bring some definition to an undefinable road, a person facing cancer typically goes through three or four seasons or phases (not to be confused with stages) of the cancer journey: initial diagnosis, treatment, post treatment and sometimes, end of life.
Each carries different physical and emotional challenges. The beginning is often the most shocking, the middle the most grueling and post-treatment the most surprising. And then a recurrence can complicate an already complicated path, forcing a person to repeat phases.
The good news is that there is hope in every phase of the cancer journey.
Rapidly advancing breakthroughs in cancer care are giving people new hope to people. And even if the medical fails, there is another hope that can’t be defeated. Indeed, God’s hope rises like the morning sun, piercing the darkness and clouds of the cancer experience with his light and good every day for those who choose it.

You are here
Even with hope, the cancer journey often feels daunting and disorienting.
Like getting lost in a network of hiking trails with no GPS, it’s helpful to stop,
pull out the map and check your destination and especially your “you are here.”
Here are some common experiences and feelings in each of the four phases,
along with how you can find God’s hope in each.

Initial Diagnosis

The experience…
The discovery of a cancer diagnosis is devastating and shocking.
The emotions that people often feel during this phase are fear, disbelief—even anger.
But fear is the most acute. They wonder, will this disease cut short my life?
And if it doesn’t, how will it change my life?
It can be nearly impossible to think clearly in this phase, as the diagnosis
hits a person like a hammer—disrupting their life and ramping emotions into overdrive.
Meanwhile, there is so much info to gather and critical decisions to make—choosing a doctor, clinic, type of treatment—decisions that could literally mean the difference between life and death. Regardless of the medical outlook, the start of the cancer journey often feels the most overwhelming.

The need…
People in this phase of the cancer journey need support from family and friends—maybe more than they ever have. If they have a job, they need understanding from bosses and coworkers. Some may need privacy and space from others to process the experience initially, or even for a long period. Others will openly discuss their health from the beginning with people they trust. Regardless, everyone needs to know that they are not facing the challenge alone.
They also need wisdom to choose the best care. Not every diagnosis has a good outlook—some are incurable or terminal even—and so those facing this part of their cancer also need to know about treatment options and especially the latest breakthroughs.
A person needs confidence that they are choosing the best care and have
a support system surrounding them.

How God can help…
In the midst of our shock, God is not caught off guard. He knows all the details of our lives, past, present and future. “Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”1
Whatever we experience, he promises to walk with us.
“He will not leave you or forsake you.”2
Not only that, he promises us hope—no matter what circumstance we face.
“And as for me, I will always have hope.”3
He also provides wisdom. God has given us a mind to think but how do we know we are headed in the right direction when facing such a mountain of info and choices? Wisdom isn’t just knowledge, it’s discernment to make the right decisions. God is wise—wiser than anyone who has ever lived. He promises to help those who ask him. “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will

Treatment

The experience…
Treatment is where the rubber meets the road. In this phase of the cancer journey
a person has accepted, or begun to accept, the diagnosis. Some are able to resign themselves to endure treatment like radiation, chemo or surgery. Others are paralyzed to make decisions. Fear is still a huge factor in this phase—even more so.
They wonder, will the treatment work? Will my body handle it?
The normal routine of life is often replaced with a flurry of doctor visits, scans and treatment. They must also take time for recovery, for the treatment often effects energy and causes nausea as well as a host of other side effects. They may also need to adjust their lifestyle, as person’s immune system may also be compromised.

The need…
In this phase of the cancer journey, a person needs strength and resiliency.
People have different thresholds to endure treatment, both physically and emotionally,
and many will be pushed, depending on their type of cancer and treatment.
They need strength.
They need courage.
More than anything, they need hope—an ongoing experience of good that helps carry them through the difficulties of the present. Hope is critical for every part of the cancer journey, but especially this one.
For those who have a spiritual belief, it is time to lean upon those beliefs, or revisit them, to find hope like never before. For those with no religious background, it’s a great time to consider faith and spiritual belief, the possibility of being able to know God and rely on him in times of trouble.

How God can help…
In critical times, God equips his people with strength.
“He gives strength to weary and increases the power of the weak.”5
He gives this vitality not just to those facing cancer, but for people facing whatever situation—whether depression, PTSD, you name it. With God, there is always hope.
He is a constant help for those who seek him. “God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.”6
God also gives people courage. “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid;
do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”7
What is the reason a person should have courage? Because God will be with them.
They will not have to fight merely in their own strength. And we will never be alone;
God will be with us.

Post Treatment

The experience…
While there are a lot of good things in this phase of the cancer journey, there are also some surprising challenges. People who have endured treatment feel like they have entered into springtime after a long, brutal winter. The desire to live and live life fully may be as strong as they have ever felt. Even though a person may have completed treatment—even just for a season—that doesn’t mean the journey is over. In some ways, it is just beginning.
After cancer, there is an awareness that life has changed and returning to “normal” can be difficult. In some ways, the life as they knew it is gone forever, and we must find a new normal.
Many people experience physical effects from treatment and cancer, as well as emotional—a form of post-traumatic stress that is not easily overcome. During this phase of the cancer journey, trying to enter back into some relationships and social experience can be challenging, isolating even.
Even so, as this phase shows, there are elements of survivorship that can be incredibly positive (see The Upside of Having Cancer).

The need…
As part of the healing process, people in this phase of the cancer journey must acknowledge the what they have come through, as well as embrace the uncertainties ahead. The reality is that everyone lives with uncertainty; cancer survivors just acknowledge it more!
Survivors should celebrate the accomplishment of treatment. This is a great time for friends and family to help them do this. They should seek to enjoy life as much as they can, despite lingering physical and emotional effects, like neuropathy or fear. This is also a good time to re-enter some parts of life that they may have had to put on hold.
They often need the people around them to be understanding and patient.
Fear is often diminished in this phase, but not absent.
In some ways, they may live with fear for the rest of their lives.

How God can help…
In this phase of the cancer journey, it is encouraging to know that God sees them, and knows what they have walked through. The people around them may not fully understand their pain. But God does. There is no experience outside of his knowledge. In the book of Psalms, the writer says, “Record my lament; list my tears on your scroll—are they not in your record?”8 Indeed, he knows our pain and remembers our tears.
Not only that, God helps people navigate survivorship, all of the emotions and challenges. He provides perspective and experiences vital to healing.
God also provides unconditional love. Even if their body or mind has changed as a result of cancer, God still loves them completely. He has a plan for their life. He promises to walk with you, no matter what.

End of Life 

The experience…
This phase of the cancer journey involves saying goodbye to life and the people we love
as well as preparing for what comes next: eternity. Whether or not cancer is the cause, everybody will go through this stage at some point in life. People often feel a lot of fear, regret and even dread for what is ahead. This is a daunting and painful stage, not just for the cancer patient, but for the people around them.
Anytime we face the end of life, it’s natural to be afraid. We want to keep living and be with those we love, and it’s difficult to imagine life beyond that. The unknowns of eternity can feel strange and daunting.

The need…
People in this phase need the support of friends and family more than ever.
They need good medical care and especially courage. They need trusted people
to help them navigate end of life choices, even decide for them.
In this phase, a person needs to know they are not alone. Our experiences with others are the most important gift we have in this life. And so, the end of days needs to be filled with many of these, with people who will patiently walk through this phase with us.
Above all, we need hope—a kind of hope that lasts beyond this short life.

How God can help…
God provides hope for the dying. Nothing that happens to us on earth—not even death—can extinguish this hope! Part of that hope is understanding eternity. Hope in God gives us confidence that when we die, we won’t just be absorbed into the cosmos, we will be with Jesus in heaven—the place he has intentionally prepared for us.
As he said, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.
My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.”9

Peace that surpasses understanding
Beyond knowing where we are going, God also gives us a peace—peace that defies what our finite minds can comprehend. “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”10
This peace surpasses understanding. And through it, we can accept what comes next.
One of the reasons we need not fear death, is that God defeated it through his Son, Jesus. “’Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?’”
We are victorious, and there is hope, because God will be with us.
Death is not the end, it’s the beginning. There is more—much more. When we die, we will spend forever with Christ in heaven—the one who knows us and loves us perfectly.
There is nothing more hopeful than that.

Conclusion
Whatever phase you are in on your cancer journey, hope is what you need most.
Your road doesn’t have to be a hopeless one. Reach out and take ahold of the hope
that is waiting for you.

Imagine using your cell phone to control the activity of your own cells to treat injuries
& diseases. It sounds like something from the imagination of an overly optimistic science fiction writer. But this may one day be a possibility through the emerging field of quantum biology.
Over the past few decades, scientists have made incredible progress in understanding
and manipulating biological systems at increasingly small scales, from protein folding 
to genetic engineering. And yet, the extent to which quantum effects influence living systems remains barely understood.
 Quantum effects are phenomena that occur between atoms and molecules that can’t be explained by classical physics. It has been known for more than a century that the rules of classical mechanics, like Newton’s laws of motion, break down at atomic scales. Instead, tiny objects behave according to a different set of laws known as quantum mechanics.

For humans, who can only perceive the macroscopic world, or what’s visible to the naked eye, quantum mechanics can seem counterintuitive and somewhat magical. Things you might not expect happen in the quantum world, like electrons “tunneling” through tiny energy barriers and appearing on the other side unscathed or being in two different places at the same time in a phenomenon called superposition.
I am trained as a quantum engineer. Research in quantum mechanics is usually geared toward technology. However, and somewhat surprisingly, there is increasing evidence that nature – an engineer with billions of years of practice — has learned how to use quantum mechanics to function optimally. If this is indeed true, it means that our understanding of biology is radically incomplete. It also means that we could possibly control physiological processes by using the quantum properties of biological matter.

Researchers can manipulate quantum phenomena to build better technology. In fact, you already live in a quantum-powered world: from laser pointers to GPS, magnetic resonance imaging, and the transistors in your computer – all these technologies rely on quantum effects.
In general, quantum effects only manifest at very small length and mass scales or when temperatures approach absolute zero. This is because quantum objects like atoms and molecules lose their “quantumness” when they uncontrollably interact with each other and their environment. In other words, a macroscopic collection of quantum objects is better described by the laws of classical mechanics. Everything that starts quantum dies classical. For example, an electron can be manipulated to be in two places at the same time, but it will end up in only one place after a short while – exactly what would be expected classically.

In a complicated, noisy biological system, it is thus expected that most quantum effects will rapidly disappear, washed out in what the physicist Erwin Schrödinger called the “warm, wet environment of the cell.” To most physicists, the fact that the living world operates at elevated temperatures and in complex environments implies that biology can be adequately and fully described by classical physics: no funky barrier crossing, no being in multiple locations simultaneously.

Chemists, however, have for a long time begged to differ. Research on basic chemical reactions at room temperature unambiguously shows that processes occurring within biomolecules like proteins and genetic material are the result of quantum effects. Importantly, such nanoscopic, short-lived quantum effects are consistent with driving some macroscopic physiological processes that biologists have measured in living cells
and organisms. Research suggests that quantum effects influence biological functions, including regulating enzyme activity, sensing magnetic fields, cell metabolism, and electron transport in biomolecules.

The tantalizing possibility that subtle quantum effects can tweak biological
processes presents both an exciting frontier and a challenge to scientists.
Studying quantum mechanical effects in biology requires tools that can measure the short time scales, small length scales, and subtle differences in quantum states that give rise to physiological changes – all integrated within a traditional wet lab environment.
In my work, I build instruments to study and control the quantum properties of small things like electrons. In the same way that electrons have mass and charge, they also have a quantum property called spin. Spin defines how the electrons interact with a magnetic field in the same way that charge defines how electrons interact with an electric field.
The quantum experiments I have been building since graduate school and now in my own lab aim to apply tailored magnetic fields to change the spins of particular electrons.

Research has demonstrated that many physiological processes are influenced by weak magnetic fields. These processes include stem cell development and maturation, cell proliferation rates, genetic material repair, and countless others. These physiological responses to magnetic fields are consistent with chemical reactions that depend on the spin of particular electrons within molecules. Applying a weak magnetic field to change electron spins can thus effectively control a chemical reaction’s final products, with important physiological consequences.
Currently, a lack of understanding of how such processes work at the nanoscale level prevents researchers from determining exactly what strength and frequency of magnetic fields cause specific chemical reactions in cells. Current cellphone, wearable, and miniaturization technologies are already sufficient to produce tailored, weak magnetic fields that change physiology, both for good and for bad. The missing piece of the puzzle is; hence, a “deterministic codebook” of how to map quantum causes to physiological outcomes.
In the future, fine-tuning nature’s quantum properties could enable researchers to develop therapeutic devices that are noninvasive, remotely controlled, and accessible with a mobile phone. Electromagnetic treatments could potentially be used to prevent and treat diseases, such as brain tumors, as well as in biomanufacturing, such as increasing lab-grown meat production.

A whole new way of doing science
Quantum biology is one of the most interdisciplinary fields to ever emerge.
How do you build community and train scientists to work in this area?
Since the pandemic, my lab at the University of California, Los Angeles, and the University of Surrey’s Quantum Biology Doctoral Training Centre have also organized Big Quantum Biology meetings to provide an informal weekly forum for researchers to meet and share their expertise in fields like mainstream quantum physics, biophysics, medicine, chemistry and biology.
Research with potentially transformative implications for biology, medicine, and the physical sciences will require working within an equally transformative model of collaboration. Working in one unified lab would allow scientists from disciplines that take very different approaches to research to conduct experiments that meet the breadth of quantum biology from the quantum to the molecular, the cellular, and the organismal.
The existence of quantum biology as a discipline implies that the traditional understanding of life processes is incomplete. Further research will lead to new insights into the age-old question of what life is, how it can be controlled, and how to learn with nature to build better quantum technologies.

Although neuroscientists have identified different regions of the brain were memories
are stored, such as the hippocampus in the middle of the brain, the neocortex in the top layer of the brain, and the cerebellum at the base of the skull, they have yet to identify the specific molecular structures within those areas involved in memory and learning. Research from our team of biophysicists, physical chemists, and materials scientists suggests that memory might be located in the membranes of neurons. How memory works
Neurons are the fundamental working units of the brain. 
They are designed to transmit information to other cells, enabling the body to function. The junction between two neurons, called a synapse, and the chemistry that takes place between synapses, in the space called the synaptic cleft, are responsible for learning and memory.
At a more fundamental level, the synapse is made of two membranes: one associated
with the presynaptic neuron that transmits information, and one associated with the postsynaptic neuron that receives information. Each membrane is made up of a lipid bilayer containing proteins and other biomolecules.

The changes taking place between these two membranes, commonly
known as synaptic plasticity, are the primary mechanism for learning and memory. 
These include changes to the amounts of different proteins in the membranes,
as well as the structure of the membranes themselves.
Synaptic plasticity can be classified as short-term, lasting from milliseconds to a few minutes, or long-term, lasting from minutes to hours or longer. The chemical processes occurring between the presynaptic and postsynaptic membranes in short-term plasticity eventually lead to long-term synaptic plasticity.

Alzheimer’s Study ‘Made the Hair on My Arms Stand Up’

In one sense, the study subject’s case is grim: He began showing signs of cognitive impairment at 67, developed full-blown dementia at 72, and died two years later,
per STAT News. In another sense, his case is remarkable:
He should have developed Alzheimer’s in his early 40s because of a gene mutation
that all but guaranteed it, reports the New York Times.
However, the onset was delayed for two decades because of a second gene mutation,
one that points the way toward potential treatment, say researchers in a study at Nature Medicine. If scientists could somehow replicate what happened in the man’s brain,
they might be able to develop a drug to do the same for others.  

“Reading that paper made the hair on my arms stand up,” neuroscientist Catherine Kaczorowski of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor tells Nature. 
“It’s just such an important new avenue to pursue new therapies for Alzheimer’s disease.” The Colombian man in the study belongs to a family with a genetic mutation that causes Alzheimer’s in middle age. However, his second mutation appeared to stop the disease from taking root in an area of the brain known as the entorhinal cortex, which is believed to play a crucial role in the development of Alzheimer’s, explains the Times.

The man is actually the second member of his extended family who seems to have been protected by a genetic mutation. In 2019, researchers identified a woman who similarly didn’t develop Alzheimer’s until decades later than expected.
However, she had a different genetic mutation, suggesting “there are multiple pathways that appear to stave off cognitive decline,” per STAT News. The bottom line here: “It seems that it is possible to have decades-long protection against Alzheimer’s disease,” says cell biologist Joseph Arboleda-Velasquez, one of the study authors.

Wildhorse Sanctuary

My name is Tara Coyote, I was born and grew up in Saratoga, CA. 
I now live in Kauai, Hawaii. 

I teach Equine Facilitated Learning (horses healing humans).
I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in September 2016. It spread to stage four
two years ago and I came very close to dying as it spread to multiple places in my body.
After heavy treatment and my hip breaking from bone metastasis, I am now grateful to
be in remission.

Tara Coyote: My Path

I feel called to demystify death, to help others understand that once one truly accepts death, one can truly come to life. I now volunteer at Hospice and find great joy in spending time with folks on the threshold of death. It is a daily reminder of how precious each moment is and I am blessed to learn this from my dying patients.

I choose to work with horses with the dying and caretakers as I see that horses have the ability to go between the worlds, to pull out the sorrow and what is real for those facing life’s greatest challenges. Horses are healers, they have the ability to touch into what the human mind likes to hide away in fear.

On the same token, allowing one’s grief to release is the same. Once we allow our tears to fall, grieving what we have lost, whether it be a friend, partner, pet, job, house, idea or the harsh realities of our environmental current situation, we release that which is holding us back from truly living life fully…

I invite you to start to recognize in a deeper fashion that death is with us at every moment, in fact, we are slowly making our way to that threshold.. We never know when our death might be, it could be sudden or long and prolonged.
There is no rhyme or reason to the riddle of why some die young and others live to a ripe, old age. Life is short and every moment is precious. Seeing my best friend’s life slowly being snuffed out was the greatest lesson in understanding how temporary our moments on Earth are…

What (or who) inspired you and why did you want to be involved in this project?
I saw Brittney Beadle’s photos about her time with Erena and it inspired me to want
to try it! I have always loved the water and it seemed like a fun way to celebrate all
the challenges I have been through.

What were your plans for the photo shoot? What are you expecting from it?
I did not really have plans as I didn’t know what to expect. I was very excited to try it. 
I told Erena I had not been in the water very much in the last year, but the thought of being in a warm, saltwater pool was very appealing.
I was drawn to Erena from seeing her photos, website and watching some of her videos and saw what a beautiful, inspired person she is. It seemed like a perfect way to celebrate my life and overcome adversity!

How was the experience with an underwater portrait session?
It was lovely. Some of it was more challenging than I had expected like
holding my breath and figuring out poses underwater. I had the most
fun wearing the mermaid tale, that was a lot of fun and felt natural and
easy for me!

How was your mood after you finished?
That is hard to describe.
I felt elevated and excited after being in the water. I also felt a bit shaken up. 
(I think the shook-up part is because I have been holding so much stress around
a very stressful circumstance in my life.
I realized when I was in the water how much stress I have been carrying.) 
This was a good thing for me to realize! I think my experience of being with you was
a powerful way to release tension and come to a place of self-realization and healing.
I was super proud of myself for facing a bit of fear of using my mermaid tale actually! 
I had been hesitant to try it and was excited to see after doing it that it was quite easy
for me! Being in the water with the fabric was difficult for me as I felt the fabric quite
heavy in the water. 

It would have been nice to have more time to connect with Erena afterwards,
but I knew we had to go as a class was happening. I was grateful for the experience

and for her loving open heart. 💟 

What does WATER mean to you?
Do you think this experience could help overcome your trauma? 
Would you go back to the water again?
Yes for sure! I would do it again after practicing a bit more to get comfortable with the sensation of being under the water. I felt a bit of shyness being photographed as being deep in the water is such a private experience for me. In the past I would dive down in
the water, swim underwater like a dolphin and feel very much at home.
Knowing a camera was pointed at me was a whole other experience..
Water is a very easy and effortless element for me. I feel at home in the water.
Yes, this experience did help me overcome my trauma, it helped me embrace
all that my body has been through…

How did you sleep the night of the photo shoot?
Compared to the usual days?
Hmmmmmm I slept very deeply.

I Just realized that!!! 🛌💤 I had a deep restful sleep.

How was Erena working with you?
She is/was wonderful! She helped me feel safe in a new challenging situation.

She helped me put my tail on… 😉 I was nervous to try that.
She was also very encouraging and loving throughout the process.

How did you get into the horse healing business and what is your relationship with
the horses? I was a horse crazy little girl who constantly begged her parents for a horse.
Despite my desperate pleas, I never got my dream horse. (This was actually a shame as
I would have been less of a trouble-making teenager if I had a horse!) When puberty
hit I forgot all about horses, until I read the book by Linda Kohanov, ’The Tao of Equus’. 
Linda’s book helped me remember that I had loved horses as a youth. 

A few years later a very traumatic incident occurred in my picture perfect,
Pilates studio owner life in Marin County, CA which threw my world utterly upside down. This event left me devastated.
To pull myself out of the shadows, I was called to spend time with the horses again. Through each horse encounter I slowly began to thread my life back together again.
The experience of being with the horses affected me so deeply that I was inspired to sell my successful Pilates studio and eventually buy a horse ranch. I can honestly say that the horses saved my life.

Over a few years’ time I became trained through Linda Kohanov’s organization Eponaquest as an Equine Facilitated Learning teacher. I created a horse retreat center (Wind Horse Sanctuary) in Nevada City, CA (Northern Ca.)
In my five years of running the retreat center hundreds of people attended one- and three-day workshops, ‘Grief Rituals with Horses’ and stayed at the tranquil sanctuary with my gorgeous herd of four horses.

I now live happily on my ancestral land in Kaua’i, Hawaii in an off the grid yurt on

How Florida’s new immigration law will affect undocumented workers

Miami Overtakes New York As the Shining Beacon of Freedom, Liberty, and Prosperity There have never been as many towers over 500 feet tall under construction in Miami

“Unquestionably the COVID impact was the trigger,” said Related Cos. President Ken Himmel about the influx of people and businesses to Florida and Palm Beach County specifically. “Unquestionably, COVID turned the switch on full blast.”

For Florida, migration is tradition.

“Migration to Florida is an old story,” said University of Washington professor and historian James Gregory in an article for America’s Great Migrations Project that noted the early 1900s citrus and land boom in the state. “More than any other state, Florida has consistently attracted newcomers.”

Of the 61,728 New Yorkers who in 2021 handed over Empire State driver’s licenses for a Florida license, 19,100 or 31% got IDs with Broward, Miami-Dade or Palm Beach County Zip codes. Palm Beach County accounted for 8,107 of the transplants, the largest share of any county in the state.

Outside of the Gold Coast counties of Southeast Florida, a weighty exchange of New York licenses last year also occurred in Orange (4,203), Hillsborough (3,746), Lee (2,672), Pinellas (2,335) and Sarasota (2,149) counties.

For native New Yorker Sandford Burian, 59, the reward for his 90-minute commute into the city from Long Island was the entertainment — a ball game or show — a nice dinner and a “zillion corporate events” to partake in after work.

With COVID restrictions shutting down much of the city and most people working
from home, the recompense for the daily slog into Manhattan was gone, he said.

Burian and his wife Heidi, 58, recently bought a home in the Avenir community in
Palm Beach Gardens and plan to become Florida residents. A home already sold under construction in the Windgate subdivision in Avenir, in Palm Beach Gardens, Wednesday, January 26, 2022.

“Maybe you were coming home late but there were these big, unique experiences
you had every day in the city,” said Burian, who is renting a home in West Palm Beach
until the Avenir residence is finished this summer. “None of that exists now.

It makes the tolerance for the commute even harder.”
When Burian’s job as a management and technology consultant went remote, Florida’s better weather and tax benefits beckoned. The pushback from younger employees about returning to offices full time made Burian dubious about what the future holds for New York City.

“We saw how much the pandemic devastated New York City and I’m not sure I want
to be around for the recovery or for how long that recovery will take,” he said. “Unless the working model literally reverted back to what it was traditionally where everyone had to be in the office every day, I don’t think people are going back.”

In early 2021, the Partnership for New York City sent a letter to New York state lawmakers warning that 300,000 city residents of “higher income neighborhoods” had filed for a change of address with the U.S. Postal Service and that Florida, Texas, North Carolina and Maryland were aggressively pursuing New York companies.

“The top 5% of earners pay 62% of state personal income taxes,” the letter said.
“These high earners do not want to abandon New York, but at some point, it does
not make sense to stay where the business climate is deteriorating, and costs are rising.”

Moving to Florida ‘feels liberating’
After selling a home in Darien, Connecticut, and moving full time to a second home in the Hamptons, Tom and Cricket Cush decided Florida was where they wanted to settle. While the beaches and sunshine are a main attraction, Tom said he feels the “spirit and attitude” in Florida during COVID has been more optimistic than in New York.

“It’s a glass is half full,” said Cush, who is building a home in West Palm Beach.
“I will tell you as a born and bred New Yorker, coming down here, it feels liberating.”

He echoed Burian’s lament of the long commute into New York but said it was something he did for more than two decades because that’s what everyone did, and other options were limited. “The pandemic changed that perspective for a lot of people,” he said.

West Palm Beach fit for the couple because they enjoy boating and it has cosmopolitan amenities such as the Norton Museum of Art, tony restaurants and a busy downtown.
The things they enjoyed; they can still relish “with the added advantage of the weather” Cush said.

Florida counties where people are moving
Miami-Dade County took the top spot for the most license swaps with 48,266. Of those, half were from “foreign countries.” Following Miami-Dade County were Hillsborough (36,626), Orange (35,582), Broward (34,084), and Palm Beach (33,859).

Jeff Lichtenstein, owner and broker of Echo Fine Properties, which helped Burian find a home in Avenir, said competition from transplants means new communities are getting myriad reservations on homes before ground is even broken.

“The strategies a buyer has to go through now are just insane,” he said. “We’re figuring out on the front end what the seller wants, what the agent wants when we write offers. We’re pre-booking inspections, filling out all the forms and doing all the things they are going to ask for.”

Boise, Idaho’s state capital city, has consistently ranked over the past year as the most overvalued housing market in the nation as remote workers flocked to an area revered for its outdoor activities and considered one of the “best cities to raise a family.”

Haslag said a permanent change in peoples’ lifestyle preferences has occurred and that the shifts in populations are unlikely to reverse in the near future.

“I don’t have anyone calling me saying they want to move back to New York,” said Douglas Elliman Realtor Joseph Wagner, who spent most of the pandemic in Florida and is licensed in Florida and New York. “Some people miss it, but most of them just want to have a spare bedroom in New York and live in Florida.”

Rising housing prices not a steal? Who cares, say transplants.
Wagner said that while buyers know they aren’t getting a deal with their Florida real estate purchases, it’s still cheaper than buying and living in New York. “It’s a seller’s market. They don’t care,” he said. “They just don’t want to pay New York state taxes.”

Wagner was reluctant to share names of his New York clients.

In early January, letters asking “woke” New Yorkers to leave Florida were put on cars in Palm Beach that had New York license plates. The notices — written in capital letters — read: “If you are one of those ‘woke’ people — leave Florida.
You will be happier elsewhere, as will we.”

Chris Porter, chief demographer at John Burns Real Estate Consulting, said he’s heard anecdotally on a national level some tension between locals and newcomers but it’s been focused on the increasing prices, not politics.

Cush said he’s felt no tension. He said he was careful to tell his new neighbors about the plans for the property he bought and said he hopes long-time residents are patient with the changes. “Maybe they’ll even appreciate it a little that their property values will go up,” Cush said.

Top 10 heading to Florida
Foreign countries made up the largest license exchanges in Florida last year with 46,370. That was followed by New York’s 42,224, and New Jersey’s 32,083.

Statewide, California ranked fourth highest in the number of driver’s license exchanges in 2021 with 27,081 — a notable 43% higher than the 5-year average and 55% higher than 2020.

Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Texas, Ohio and Virginia rounded out the top 10 of most license swaps. All were higher than the 5-year average.

Nearly 1,900 of the 2021 California changes were made to Palm Beach County addresses. While that’s small compared to the number from the northeast, it’s 51% higher than the 5-year average and 63% higher than 2020.

New York transplant Burian said despite the dispersed migration nationwide, he believes South Florida will feel a profound impact from the northeast newcomers who may have different — if not more expensive — demands and bigger checkbooks for donations to the arts and charities.

“I think a lot of affluence is coming down here and the heavy hitters are moving down and the qualitative demands of these people are huge,” Burian said. “The question is what’s going to happen to New York.”

I have found that this documentary is often removed from platforms, in fact, only one channel on YouTube has it at the moment and has very

how great scientists’ names show on papers that they do not agree with the conclusion.
I tend to watch these things in bed, either before I drift off or as I wake up, also the brain

Eventually, I have come to my own conclusion.
Tried to share it here and there whenever a discussion was being had with regards
to the subject. My conclusion was that humans, while adding a small amount to the CO2 emissions, do not influence the climate in any way. It is exactly the other way around. The change in temperatures actually influences the amount of emissions while the temperature is influenced by the sun’s activity. Needless to say, while some people found my conclusion logical and useful, many others didn’t and some even tried to ridicule it but not by bringing in their own research but by simply quoting articles.

of heart disease, neurodegenerative conditions, diabetes, certain cancers, and obesity

Other eating patterns shown to safeguard against disease include plant-based,

In fact, some diets may reverse certain conditions.

Selenium, glutathione peroxidase and the immune system!

Dietary Se and selenoproteins are not only important for initiating or enhancing immunity, but they are also involved in immunoregulation, which is crucial for preventing excessive responses that may lead to autoimmunity or chronic inflammation. It should be noted that most studies in the literature involve modifications to dietary Se, and insights into mechanisms often are not clear, but roles for individual selenoproteins and mechanisms are discussed when data are available.

On a cellular level, dietary Se may influence various leukocytic effector functions including adherence, migration, phagocytosis, and cytokine secretion. Several members of the selenoprotein family regulate or are regulated by cellular redox tone, which is a crucial modulator of immune cell signaling and function. There are also important links between selenoproteins and calcium (Ca2+) flux, which is regulated by and regulates the oxidative burst required for optimal immune cell activation. New insights have been gained into specific roles for individual selenoproteins in modulating immune receptor-mediated signaling pathways linked to Ca2+ flux and oxidative burst, inducing cytokine production, migration, and other cellular processes.
This article will describe redox-based mechanisms that affect these cellular processes during inflammation and immunity, and how Se and selenoproteins are involved in those processes. The impact of Se on immune-related human physiology and pathophysiology is also discussed, with emphasis placed on disorders related to immunity and chronic inflammation. It should be noted that health issues such as hypertension and cardiovascular diseases have been extensively covered in other reviews (141, 183, 245), and are not included in this article. Finally, issues are raised as to how Se supplementation may be best utilized to enhance or modulate certain types of inflammation and immune responses. Go to:

II. Bioactive Forms of Se and Their Effects
Dietary Se is essential in trace amounts and is attained through a wide variety of food sources including grains, vegetables, seafood, meats, dairy products, and nuts (68). The major form of Se ingested by humans is selenomethionine (Se-Met), although other forms of Se are present in foods. Dietary Se may exert some of its biological effects through small-molecular-weight selenocompounds. For example, both selenite and Se-Met may be metabolized into methylated Se compounds, some of which have cancer chemopreventive effects (113). One example is the inhibition histone deacetylase (HDAC) activity in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma cell lines by methylseleninic acid and the toxic effects this may exert in chemoprevention (125).
In addition, some studies have used the selenoorganic compound, ebselen, to show that macrophage and dendritic cell functions are affected by this small-molecular-weight selenocompound (156, 229). However, there are very few studies that investigate the effects of selenocompounds on inflammation or immunity, and most of the data regarding the biological activity of Se is related to its incorporation into selenoproteins. Thus, this article will mainly focus on the role of selenoproteins in exerting the effects of dietary Se on inflammatory and immune responses. Se is often referred to as an antioxidant, mainly due to the role of certain selenoproteins in detoxifying hydrogen peroxidase or reversing the effects of oxidized lipids or methionine residues. In addition, certain selenoproteins are crucial for regenerating reduced forms of thioredoxin to maintain balanced levels of reduced/oxidized molecules within cells (cellular redox tone) as described in greater detail next. Some people blame their weight on how their body breaks down food into energy,

Metabolism: Converting food into energy
Metabolism does help decide how much energy a body needs.
But weight depends on how much a person eats & drinks combined with physical activity.

During this process, calories in food and drinks mix with oxygen to make the energy the body needs. Even at rest, a body needs energy for all it does.

Muscle mass is the main factor in basal metabolic rate.
Basal metabolic rate also depends on:

Body size and composition.

the same age and weight. That means men burn more calories.
Age. With aging, people tend to lose muscle.
More of the body’s weight is from fat, which slows calorie burning.
Besides the basal metabolic rate, two other things decide how many
calories a body burns each day:
How the body uses food. Digesting, absorbing, moving and storing food burn calories. About 10% of calories eaten are used for digesting food and taking in nutrients. This can’t be changed much.
How much a body moves. Any movement, such as playing tennis, walking to a store or chasing the dog, makes up the rest of the calories a body burns each day. This can be changed a lot, both by doing more exercise and just moving more during the day.
Daily activity that isn’t exercise is called nonexercised activity thermogenesis (NEAT).
This includes walking around the house. It also includes activities such as gardening and housework, and even fidgeting. NEAT accounts for about 100 to 800 calories used daily.

Metabolism and weight
You might want to blame a medical condition for slow metabolism and weight gain.
But rarely does a medical condition slow metabolism enough to cause a lot of weight gain. Conditions that can cause weight gain include Cushing syndrome or having an underactive thyroid gland, also known as hypothyroidism. These conditions are uncommon.

Many things affect weight gain. These likely include genes, hormones, diet and lifestyle, including sleep, physical activity and stress. You gain weight when you eat more calories than you burn — or burn fewer calories than you eat.

A closer look at physical activity and metabolism.

To burn more calories:
The Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans recommends the following:
Aerobic activity. As a general goal, aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity every day. If you want to lose weight, maintain weight loss or meet specific fitness goals, you may need to exercise more.
Moderate aerobic exercise includes activities such as brisk walking, biking, swimming and mowing the lawn. Vigorous aerobic exercise includes activities such as running, heavy yard work and aerobic dancing.
Strength training. Do strength training exercises for all major muscle groups at least two times a week. Strength training can include use of weight machines, your own body weight, heavy bags, resistance tubing or resistance paddles in the water, or activities such as rock climbing.

There is No magic bullet.
Don’t look to dietary supplements for help in burning calories or losing weight.
Products that claim to speed up metabolism usually don’t live up to their claims.

Some may cause bad side effects.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration doesn’t ask for

There’s no easy way to lose weight.
