How will History Judge President Trump?

How will History Judge former President Trump?

A panel of historians is releasing its third collection of essays analyzing and assessing
the accomplishments and failures of a presidential administration. But for the first time,
a former president, Donald Trump, spoke to the historians to offer his own take on his time in office. Correspondent Rita Braver talks with Princeton University’s Julian Zelizer, who assembled the panel, and with the academics who unpack history’s first judgment of the 45th president. Warnings in 1984. In George Orwell’s novel 1984, Divide Them & Conquer Them 🙁
Mr. Orwell provides the reader with three practical warnings against certain dangers in government. The first warning states that people who want individualism and freedom must be willing to fight and risk their lives to protect these values, as we all know that freedom is not free.

WELL HELL:
If the left has its way . . . . The United States — won’t see its 250th Birthday in 2026.
Hostile historians may come to regard Donald Trump’s presidency as an aggregation of the lesser traits of his predecessors. The bullying of Lyndon Baines Johnson, demeaning White House aides and even humiliated his Vice-President Hubert Humphrey – forcing his deputy once to recite a speech on Vietnam while he listened, legs akimbo, trousers around his ankles, on the toilet.

The intellectual incuriosity of Ronald Reagan, who once apologized to his then White House Chief of Staff James Baker for not reading his briefing books with the immortal excuse: “Well, Jim, The Sound of Music was on last night.” The shameless lies of Bill Clinton about his affair with Monica Lewinsky. The paranoia of Richard Nixon, who in
his final days railed, King Lear-like, at portraits hanging on the White House walls.

The incompetence of George W Bush, whose failure to master basic governance partly explained his administration’s botched response — to the aftermath of the war in Iraq
and also to Hurricane Katrina. The historical amnesia of Gerald Ford, whose assertion during a 1976 presidential debate that Eastern Europe was not dominated by Moscow
was a forerunner of Trump’s recent endorsement of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.

The strategic impatience of Barack Obama, whose instinct always was to withdraw US forces from troublesome battlefields, such as Iraq, even if the mission had not yet been completed. Even the distractedness of John F Kennedy, who whiled away afternoons
in the White House swimming pool with a bevy of young women to state his libido, a sexualized version, perhaps, of Donald Trump sitting for his hours in front of his flat-screen TV watching friendly right-wing anchors massage his ego.

At the midpoint of Donald Trump’s first term, historians have struggled to detect the
kind of virtues that offset his predecessors’ vices: the infectious optimism of Reagan; the inspirational rhetoric of JFK; the legislative smarts of LBJ; or the governing pragmatism of Nixon. So rather than being viewed as the reincarnation of Ronald Reagan or Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Trump gets cast as a modern-day James Buchanan, Franklin Pierce or William Harrison.

Last year, a poll of nearly 200 political science scholars, which has routinely placed Republicans higher than Democrats, ranked him 44th out of the 44 men who have occupied the post (for those wondering why Trump is the 45th president, Grover Cleveland served twice).
Though the president has likened himself to Abraham Lincoln, who posterity has deemed to be the greatest of all presidents, this survey judged him to be the worst of the worst. Even the conservative scholars, who identified themselves as Republicans, placed him 40th.

Was it not for his braggadocio, Donald Trump might receive a more positive historical press? A recurring problem, after all, is that he gets judged against his boasts. He can point to a significant record of right-wing accomplishment. Tax reform. Two Supreme Court nominees safely installed on the bench. The travel ban. The bonfire of federal regulations. Criminal justice reform. Legislative action aimed at ameliorating the opioid crisis. Nato members pony up more cash.

Annual wage growth is at a nine-year high. 2018 was the best year for job creation since 2015. Many of his campaign pledges, such as the renegotiation of the Nafta free-trade agreement and the relocation of the US embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem,
have been kept. Promise made; promise kept is one of his boasts regularly rings true.

Jesus preaching the sermon on the mount. What would Jesus actually do?
He’d never give up on US “deplorables”. Opinion by Nathaniel Manderson.

From The Holy Bible published by William Collins, Sons, & Company in 1869. Chromolithograph by J.M. Kronheim & Co. As a former evangelical pastor:
Who strongly opposes Donald Trump and the current leadership of the evangelical movement, I believe this: The blueprint for stopping them can be found in the life and ministry of Jesus Christ, who devoted himself to strengthening the downtrodden and exposing the evils of religious leadership.
With many political experts predicting a pretty bad performance for the Democrats in 2022, and the possible or probable return of Trump two years later, it’s a dangerous time. I think that would be a bad thing for this country, very bad for the Christian faith and very, very bad for anyone on the wrong side of advantage in America.
If we look at the life of Christ, the central message was clear. Attacking Caesar and Rome — or, today, attacking Trump or anyone else who wields power — is not the path. The answer lies within the people that the church has typically ignored, while revealing the hypocrisy of the leadership and expose the modern-day Pharisees, a role now being played by evangelical leadership.
I must admit, as a side note, that my faith in the Democratic Party is not strong. I believe we need more political parties in the U.S., as that large corporations seem to be controlling everything from a celebrity’s voice to the news media to politicians of both parties, the health care industry, the justice system and also, most certainly, the church. It often feels like too much to take on, and truly living a life of integrity has become more and more difficult. What I do see clearly is that Trump’s form of leadership is dangerous for America. Stopping him is by no means the end of the battle, but it’s a start.

How Christian nationalism drove the insurrection: A religious history of Jan. 6
To start off with, I think the tactic of attacking Trump and his followers is a mistake that only makes him and his movement stronger. Calling his followers a basket of “deplorables” only encourages many more people to jump into the basket. Hell, when I heard that comment from Hillary Clinton back in 2016, I felt much more “deplorable” than not. I not only voted for Clinton against Trump (I laugh), I believe she would have been a more effective president than her husband, and perhaps than Barack Obama (I laugh again). But the language of the downtrodden is the language of humility, and an understanding that we have failed in life in ways that makes us feel more deplorable than not. Trump was unapologetically deplorable and that felt good for the millions of Americans who have lost a hundred times over in their lives. So, stop that approach, because it’s not working.
I want to be clear that I am not talking about reaching a certain type of Trump follower. I’m not quite that naive. For instance, during my last haircut I was advised to watch out for the Nazis who were trying to check my vaccination status. After a remarkable conversation not based on any understanding of history or anything logical, I can only conclude that person is unreachable. There are millions of others who are simply too far gone, lost in a system of control and manipulation. But those people do not represent all Trump voters any more than my liberal neighbors in Cambridge, Massachusetts, speak for all Democrats.

In the ministry of Jesus, his church and message welcomed all who were willing to improve themselves through humility, forgiveness and grace. It did not matter what was happening in their life, how much or little they owned, what sins they had committed in their life or what their social station might be. His followers until that time had no agency, no voice, no acceptance. In a sense, that is how liberal or progressive leaders should approach these next two years. Learn the stories of all those who have struggled with the American dream. Provide them a voice, embrace them as brothers and sisters, and show them a path that leads to their own success, whether materially, spiritually or otherwise. Do not speak from a place of arrogance, success and superior knowledge but a place of humility and empathy.
In the ministry of Jesus it was equally important to show the great divide between the religious leadership and the needs of their followers. The Pharisees presented themselves as the arbiters of God’s justice and as people of purity and goodness, while hoping to shield their misdeeds and hypocrisy in darkness. Things are much the same today: Nothing the evangelical leaders do is for their followers. They only seek to lift themselves up, and to be seen as both righteous and powerful. They have set themselves up as the gatekeepers to God’s love, but in the words of Matthew 23, they have neglected “justice and mercy and faithfulness” and they serve the devil, making their followers
“Twice as much the children of hell” as they are.

In truth, I am no one and I am everyone. I am a liberal, a deplorable, a minister, a father.
I am alone and a failure. In the end I am just a man with two coat hangers, trying to solve a problem much bigger than I am capable of solving. About a year ago, I was locked out of my car at night, in the winter, in a state park with a closed gate, a dying phone and no coat. AAA turned me down, and the cops wouldn’t open the gate. I had to run four miles back to my car, with no way of reaching anyone and with nothing more than two coat hangers, in an attempt to break into my car and get out of my jam.

My best friend and soulmate, who has asthma and is massively allergic to dogs, was stuck in a car with my mom, who has a dog and wasn’t wearing her mask correctly. I needed to solve this issue with my two coat hangers and no phone signal. My friend was worried about me and told my mom, “Listen, Nate will die out there. He will not give up.” She knew me well. That struggling, relentless part of me is a part of every working person in this country. None of us quit. We keep fighting, in spite of the structures that let us down, in spite of the God that seems to ignore us and in spite of our own personal failings, armed with our two coat hangers and the hope — or the faith — that somehow we will find our way through.

I say all this because I want those people who have power, voice and agency not to give
up on us “deplorables.” This country is heading in the wrong direction and the only way through is to look to a very old formula: one that goes back 2,000 years or so: Expose the hypocrisy of the religious leadership, lift up the downtrodden and reclaim the American dream. Our nation’s “greatness” is not found on a slogan, at a fancy hotel or on an exclusive golf course. It is not found in the top circles of the news media, the deep pockets of the Hollywood elites or in any political party. It is certainly not found in the church. It is found with the people who understand what it is like to take on some of life’s most difficult problems with a couple of coat hangers, your strength of will and a little hope.

The Secret to Longevity: Loma Linda

Longevity in Loma Linda California – Bing video
Where teaching to help those in need spiritually, mentally, and physically is of paramount importance. Living a decade longer than the average American is a group of Seventh Day Adventists in Loma Linda, California. Much of the community’s longevity can be traced to religion, culture, and a sense of wholeness. This project examines what it means “to make a person whole” in body, mind, and spirit, while examining studies conducted at Loma Linda University School of Public Health.

Geographic locations around the world where people are living longer and healthier,
were first studied by Dan Buettner, National Geographic Fellow and New York Times
best-selling author. He called them “blue zones.” Loma Linda is the only blue zone region identified in the United States. Mahoney looks to develop a deeper understanding of the Seventh-Day Adventist community in Loma Linda, connecting religion, community, and lifestyle to longevity.

Through the stories of Loma Linda’s Seventh-Day Adventists,
Mahoney sheds light on the “secret to longevity” and how overall wellness involves more than physical well-being. Living a decade longer than the average American is a group of 9,000 Seventh-day Adventists in Loma Linda, California. Loma Linda is coined a blue zone by National Geographic Fellow and New York Times bestselling author, Dan Buettner. Blue zones consist of five places in the world where individuals are healthier and live longer.

Adapting blue zone characteristics such as regular exercise, vegetarianism, and a sense
of community, the spirituality and religiosity in Loma Linda’s Seventh-day Adventists serve as its key ingredient to longevity. Every day, Loma Linda resident and Seventh-day Adventist Ester van den Hoven, 96, walks twice for 20 minutes, a walking regime she has stuck to for years. She reads the Bible and other spiritual texts each day, while completing puzzles and socializing within her Linda Valley Villa retirement community.

Starting around 5am, Tom Sawyer, 75, hikes six to eight miles per day, sometimes
12 miles in the hills of Loma Linda. A bowl of oatmeal topped with chia seeds, hemp seeds, cranberries, bananas, and almonds that has been his go-to breakfast for as long as he can remember. His wife, Marijke Sawyer, 73, eats a handful of almonds, has her worship, and reads the Dutch and Adventist news before heading out the door to walk a mile to the Drayson Center to work out. She makes it a goal to walk a total of five miles each day,
with aerobics, stretching, balance, and weights as part of her daily routine.

Marijke (left) and Tom Sawyer (right) celebrating the Sabbath in their backyard on Saturday, July 17, 2021, in Loma Linda, California. On the Sabbath, the Sawyers have fellowship with friends, share stories, and gather together for a healthy, vegetarian meal. “We rejoice and we celebrate on the Sabbath. From Friday sundown to Saturday Sabbath sundown, we set that time frame apart to relax as God set it apart at creation,” Marijke Sawyer said.
Exercise, a vegetarian diet, a sense of community, and religiosity are common factors within the 9,000 Seventh-day Adventists in Loma Linda that contribute to longevity.

Viewing the body as a “Temple of the Holy Spirit,” Adventists derive their diet from the Bible, specifically looking at Genesis 1:29: “Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.” Most Adventists follow a vegetarian diet, believing this diet is optimal for their health, as well as the original diet God intended for humans to have.

“The Temple of the Holy Spirit all started in the Garden of Eden. Man was made to eat vegetables and not to kill animals. I believe if we eat healthy food like fruits, nuts, grains, vegetables, and drink plenty of water; health is optimal. Anything that we put in our body, like a stimulant, alcohol, or smoking, any of that sort, becomes so damaging,” Marijke Sawyer said. “Our body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit and we want to honor that and respect that. That is why we choose healthy living, the diet, and exercise. The spiritual part, I would argue, is the most important. It all stems down from that.”

Spirituality is a common thread that Adventists share and an intrinsic part to their everyday lives. This relationship with God remains at the forefront of their lives as Adventists set aside each Saturday, known as the Sabbath, to worship, rest, and be
with the community. They view the Sabbath as the seventh day of the weekly cycle.

“The Sabbath is defined as a period of rest,” Cristian Iordan, a pastor at Campus Hill Church said. “It is a day focused on the relationship with God and enjoying the community of fellow believers. That’s why most Adventists during the Sabbath come to church and worship. They have fellowship with each other.”

Pastor Cristian Iordan sits in a pew at Campus Hill Church in Loma Linda on Thursday, July 15, 2021. Iordan grew up in Romania under communism for the first 10 years of his life. “There were many times when people from the communist government and local authorities would come to our door and look for what they called contraband, which was religious literature.

The printing and distribution of any religious content was highly restricted and
monitored by the government.
In a way, that amplified and enriched my journey with God,” Iordan said. To find a sense of purpose, fueled by faith and community, Marijke Sawyer volunteers in Loma Linda and the surrounding communities. She volunteers at places such as at the Preventative Care Office School of Public Health, at the Drayson Center as a volunteer of the Senior Planning Committee, and at the Proton Center, and she participates in food drives with her husband Tom, as well as other contributions.

“Some people say, ‘Marijke, you should slow down.’ Why would I slow down?” she said. “As you retire, you have two choices,” Marijke Sawyer said. “You can either stay home
and vegetate or be a light and be productive for your community and for the people surrounding you.
I choose to be blooming where the good Lord has planted me. I enjoy every moment of it; talking and sharing with people, praying with them, offering a word of encouragement.”

Marijke Sawyer volunteers at a food drive at the Inland Empire Filipino Seventh-day Adventist Church in Redlands, California, on Wednesday, July 14, 2021. “Every day there are different activities and different people you will meet. You will meet sorrow and you will meet joy. I just feel so blessed,” Sawyer said.

Born and raised in the Netherlands, Marijke Sawyer met her husband Tom in 1969,
who was born and raised a Seventh-day Adventist. Three years into their marriage,
she decided to become a Seventh-day Adventist, too.
“I was simply taken back by so much truth, biblical sound truth,” Marijke Sawyer said. “Also, the lifestyle. I always thought Tom had a different lifestyle than anything I had
ever experienced. Life has become more meaningful.”

On Wednesdays, Marijke (left) and Tom Sawyer (right) deliver food
to various homes in Loma Linda. “The spiritual part plays a big role.
It has as much to do with the physical part,” Tom Sawyer said.
Similarly, for Ester van den Hoven, being a Seventh-day Adventist and

Hoven was born in Germany and spent her early years living in multiple places
including Turkey, the Netherlands, and Australia. In 1962, Hoven settled in Loma Linda.
“I feel my faith has given me a lot of peace,” Hoven said. “Always be honest, trust in God, and believe in spiritual things. To some people it may sound silly, but if I wouldn’t have had that hope, I would be very much lost.” Religion gives these Seventh-day Adventists rest, peace, and purpose, a recipe for longevity.

Hoven reads other spiritual literature in addition to the Bible. “I pray at night that I’ll be able to get up and do what I have to do. My purpose is to live carefully, be kind, be honest, love God, love thy neighbor as thyself,” Hoven said.
“What describes this particular community here is a rich diversity of cultures and people coming from virtually everywhere in the world,” Iordan said. “When people come together from all these different cultural backgrounds, there is a strong magnet that continues to attract here at Campus Hill Church and that is our devotion and love to God, which is first and foremost generated by that.”

our Creator, the one who created us in his image and likeness, but also our Redeemer,
who is God? We believe God instilled in every human being the ability to choose.

When people come to worship God here, they exercise the decision to come together and to worship,” Iordan said. “Religion, as a believer, gives me peace of mind because I have the assurance of salvation,” Marijke Sawyer said. “Therefore, I can rest easy, and it gives me a reason to live.”

To Make a Person Whole’: Body, Mind, and Spirit.

What this sunny, religious town in California teaches us about living longer | CNN Researchers are uncovering the secrets to why individuals in the southern California
town of Loma Linda are living 10 years longer than the average American.
Located in San Bernadino County, Loma Linda is the sole blue zone in the United States, as defined by National Geographic Fellow and New York Times bestselling author,
Dan Buettner.
Blue zones started as a concept developed out of the demographic work by Gianni Pes and Michel Poulain in the Journal of Experimental Gerontology, which Buettner then built upon. Traditionally, blue zones are “heterogeneous populations where people are living statistically longer,” Buettner explains.

Most often, exercise and healthy eating top the list of wellness habits in blue zone communities; however, the Seventh-day Adventists in Loma Linda redefine healthy living by adding a new meaning. Nestled into the desert mountains of southern California sits Loma Linda, known as “Beautiful Hill.” A quiet, suburban area of families, seniors, and college students, this community, including Loma Linda University School of Public Health researchers, is striving “to make a person whole,” mind, body, and spirit, while extending this philosophy to its surrounding communities. ‘The Secret to Longevity:’ Flagler student’s deep dive into one of the world’s ‘blue zones’ – The Flagler College Gargoyle

Religious and Geographic Impact

Dr. Seth Wiafe, assistant professor at Loma Linda University School of Public Health, believes that religion plays a role in human longevity. believes that religion plays a role in human longevity. He notes that most who live to and beyond 100 recognize peace, God, relationships, and food as active contributors to their health, and that they are all connected because they are “born spiritual by nature.” Other researchers agree that religiosity affects overall wellness.

Buettner credits some of this work to Dr. Gary Fraser, Adventist Health Study. A Healing Tool? distinguished professor at Loma Linda University School of Public Health and an investigator of the Adventist Health Study. According to Buettner, Fraser has discovered that individuals who attend religious service once a week live 4 to 14 years longer than those who do not attend regularly or at all.

“It is mostly the social and spiritual environment that contributes to Loma Linda’s longevity,” Buettner said in an interview.
“It is not as geographically defined [as other blue zones], it is more the cultural influence. The blue zone lies in their religion as opposed to a place.” Researchers and Adventists alike, such as Wiafe, are working to extend this sense of community and wholeness into other communities near or around Loma Linda.

During a 2010 National Health Summit, Wiafe raised the question, “How can we turn red zones into blue zones?”
This question has led him to Muscoy, California a town nearby and arguably a red zone, to make a difference.
As Wiafe notes, Muscoy has little to no streetlights or pavement for people to walk and exercise. In communities struggling to provide adequate living situations and proper nutrition, it can be difficult to seek longevity and adapt blue zone characteristics and

Likewise, the Blue Zones Project strives to implement healthier environments and lifestyles throughout the United States. For example, the Blue Zones Project has spurred positive changes in beach cities in California, as well as within the states of Minnesota, Iowa, and Texas. Through the Blue Zones Power 9, the Blue Zones Project is striving to make being healthy easier by “reverse engineering longevity,” Buettner said in an interview.
The Power 9, adapted by areas of the world where people live longer, includes moving naturally, having a sense of purpose, having routines to reduce stress, eating meals in the late afternoon or early evening and not indulging the rest of the day, eating more plant-based, drinking not at all or moderately, attending faith-based services, fostering family connections, and choosing healthy social circles.

Faith-Based Diet
The majority of Adventists are vegetarian, bond through their spirituality, and come together for plant-based meals. These strong social connections encourage healthy behaviors and build a sense of community within Loma Linda, specifically. Research suggests that “Seventh-Day Adventists, in particular, live their religious beliefs through their lifestyle choices, through their healthy diets, through their exercise activities, and social and emotional connections,” Kelly R. Morton, PhD, MA | School of Behavioral Health (llu.edu) said. “Those social connections actually support those choices.”

Furthermore, Dr. Hildemar Dos Santos, associate professor at Loma Linda University School of Public Health, has always practiced the Seventh-day Adventist faith despite growing up in Brazil, a traditionally meat-based culture. “Eating meat was so into the [Brazilian] culture; that was tough,” Dos Santos said. “Adventists believe that our bodies physiologically were made to eat vegetables. Before God created the animals and man, he created the vegetables and fruits, for those to be food to sustain them.”

Seventh-day Adventists have created a culture promoting overall wellness. Specifically at Loma Linda University, it becomes easier to make healthier choices with plant-based food options and no alcohol or smoking on campus. The University’s Drayson Center, whose purpose contributes to quality of life, also offers health services to the community, for college students and seniors alike.

Extending Wholeness Into “Red Zones”
Wiafe notes that through GIS, the Geographic Information System, food deserts and “red zones” can be identified and help in building healthier communities. “In public health, you will hear many times about lack of resources,” Wiafe said. “In order for you to be able to make a promise and address the issues of people, you need to maximize your resources. We are using a system that will help us make better decisions, so that we can make better public health improvements in the lives of people. We want to avoid deserts of any kind, and the only way to do that is to map it out and that is where GIS helps us.”

Starting with a needs-based assessment, Wiafe and his students looked at the needs of Muscoy. Safety seemed to be the biggest interference with the health and wellness of Muscoy’s residents. “If we want to promote exercise, physical activity, and the place is not safe, they cannot walk around freely,” Wiafe said. “We teamed up with the county department where they had a program to address some of these issues. The following year, we did another follow-up assessment and what came up was nutrition. In other words, food safety.” Through these efforts, Wiafe is hoping Muscoy will be able to adapt blue zone qualities similar to Loma Linda.

“We try to model what Loma Linda looks like in those communities, and my hope is that over time, we will be able to achieve the blue zone,” Wiafe said. “I raised that question, ‘How can we turn red zones into blue zones?’ crying for help, if you will. This is not something that cannot be done, if we are able to work together as a team.” Loma Linda University’s motto, “to make man whole,” continues to be the driving philosophy in bringing wellness to dire communities.

“To make man whole means to see individuals and all of their facets,” Morton said.
“In order to make them whole and to bring them toward wellness, you have to see their emotional health, their spiritual and religious health, their psychological health, their physical health, their lifestyle health. Opening up all those components allows us to actually see the person and use all of those different facets of that person to move them toward wellness.”

Early Childhood Experiences Affect Wholeness
To measure the connection between lifestyle, diet, religion, and other various factors, Loma Linda University has conducted numerous studies on Seventh-day Adventists through the Adventist Health Study. More than 96,000 participants are included in the on-going study with more than 40 years of research. One of the studies published in 2020, Adverse Childhood Experiences and Depressive Symptoms, by Morton and a team of researchers at Loma Linda University looks at the connection between longevity and adverse childhood experiences.

“Adverse childhood experiences include physical abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, and a lot of times poverty or having dysfunctions in the home related to drugs or alcohol,” Morton said. “People that have those early experiences actually have shorter lives. They die 20 years earlier than people who do not have those experiences. [Those experiences] actually change the threat centers of our brain, the amygdala, so that what happens is you are so attuned to threat that you see it everywhere.

Your stress hormones are constantly bathing your body and telling it ‘threat is out there.’
That degrades your organ systems and leads to early death.” Morton notes that the study found choosing a plant-based diet after adverse childhood experiences can lead to a longer life—a diet that many Seventh-day Adventists have adapted. “In that study, we actually found that if you have four or more adverse childhood experiences, which is guaranteed damage, and you chose a healthy, plant-based diet—that could actually help you live longer,” Morton said.

“Those that chose a healthy, plant-based lifestyle lived four to five years longer than the ones that did not make that choice.” Growing up Adventist and being presented with a set of values, such as a relationship with God, exercise, and a healthy, vegetarian diet can be positive reinforcers for longevity. “Like anybody, as a teenager or young adult you have to go through whatever treasure chest your parents gave you with tools and philosophies and decide what you want to keep and what you want to throw out. I had to ask if being Adventist was something that still matched the person I wanted to grow into.

I completely resonate with the idea of working towards wholeness,” Dr. Penelope Duerkson-Hughes, Associate Dean for Basic Science and Translational Research at Loma Linda University School of Medicine, said. One’s upbringing and environment can impact one’s adult experiences and the choices one makes. In struggling San Bernardino counties, making the healthier choice is sometimes not an accessible option in an environment also hindering movement and exercise. Someone raised as a Seventh Day Adventist could be more likely to continue the healthy lifestyle and loving atmosphere they experienced as a child, leading to healthier choices and contributing to overall longevity.

Ethics of Longevity Research – Bing video
As studies continue to examine longevity through participants’ data, researchers are ensuring ethical research is conducted.
“The research that I have been doing has a lot to do with the definition of health,” Duerkson-Hughes said. “When you are looking at DNA sequences and trying to figure out what that means for a person’s prospects, how to handle, communicate, disseminate, and manage that information is full of ethical questions. Lots of times when you search for one thing, you find things you weren’t looking for and knowing how best to communicate is full of dilemmas.”

All research conducted at Loma Linda University School of Public Health is reviewed with ethical considerations in mind. Morton specifically looks at all behavioral health studies on Loma Linda University’s campus, along with the help of other researchers. Consent is an ethical issue Morton emphasizes with participants. “I try to put on the hat of a participant or patient,” Morton said. “Does this patient feel pressured or vulnerable and how do we combat those things? I tend to look at it less as a researcher and more as a mom, a daughter, so people are never misled, even unintentionally.

I make sure it is truly in a language that they can understand. It’s not as easy as you may think.” Participants give blanket consent. Since the scope of the research can change over time, participants are able to withdraw from a study any time, along with all their data. “You want participants to feel they have a choice,” Morton said. “Everyone has a choice. They have a choice every single moment in the process, not just the day they decide. Our participants can continue to make that choice, even 17 years later, if that is your choice.”

Purposeful Wholeness Leads to Longevity.
Loma Linda is making a person whole; spiritually, physically, and mentally with the Seventh-day Adventist faith at the center of it all. “God’s purpose for us is to be connected with other humans as His creations and to be in charge and responsible for that creation,” Cristian Iordan, a pastor at Campus Hill Church, said. “The best people to take care of are people. You don’t need a degree in mental health or medicine to take care of other people.”

Climate Change

The Arctic is warming faster than anywhere else, scientists say.

Climate Change Explanation is proposed for extra heat in the oceans.
The Arctic has experienced the warming effects of global climate change faster than any other region on the planet. Scientists at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography have developed a new theory aided by computer simulations and observations that helps explain why this occurs. Climate Change Is Causing Europe’s Largest Glacier Mass to Rapidly Melt | Inside Edition

Ocean warmth sets record high in 2021 due to greenhouse gas emissions.
A team led by Scripps researcher Emma Beer observed the changes taking place in the Arctic Ocean, which is largely covered by sea ice for most of the year. There, an unusual situation exists where the water is warm at depth and cold near the surface.
The deeper waters are fed by the relatively warm Pacific and Atlantic oceans, whereas the near-surface waters are in contact with sea ice and remain close to the freezing point.
Heat flows upward from the warmer water to the colder water.

2021 finished in top 5 hottest years on record (msn.com)

The scientists found that the deeper water is getting warmer as a result of climate change, but the near-surface water below the sea ice remains close to the freezing point. The increasing difference in temperature leads to a greater upward flow of heat. Beer, Scripps climate scientist Ian Eisenman, and researcher Till Wagner of the University of North Carolina estimate that this phenomenon is responsible for about 20% of the amplification of global warming that occurs in the Arctic.
“While previous work has found mechanisms related to the surface and the atmosphere that cause Arctic amplification, our finding is that there is also a fundamental reason why the ocean causes polar amplification when the polar region is covered with sea ice,” Eisenman said of the National Science Foundation-supported study.

The results are published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters.

Why Can You See the Moon During the Day? We Asked a NASA Scientist.
We think of the Moon as a nighttime object because it’s often shown that way to us
in books and movies. Even the weatherman uses the Sun as a symbol for day and the Moon for night. But the Moon actually spends almost as much time in the daytime
sky as the night. You just have to look a little harder to see it.
Let’s think about why we can see the Moon at night at all. Unlike our Sun, the Moon doesn’t create its own light. We can only see it because light from the Sun is reflecting
off of its surface.
The same is true during the day, and unlike the stars which are also still up there during the day, but we can’t see them because the sky is too bright, the Moon actually shines bright enough that you can see it day or night as long as it’s in the right part of the sky.

During a full Moon, the Moon is opposite the Sun in the sky.
That’s why we can see the full face of the Moon reflecting sunlight.
As the Earth rotates, the Moon rises just as the Sun sets, but just on that one day of
the month. In the days before a full Moon, if you look in the eastern sky, you can find
the almost full Moon rising before the sun sets. And the days after a full Moon, you
can look in the western sky and find the Moon setting after the Sun has come up.

Over the last year, I’ve actually made a game of timing my daily bike ride to see if I can spot it in the daytime sky. But it will keep you on your toes. It sets about 50 minutes later each day as it marches through its phases. So, keep your eyes peeled and keep looking up. Maybe you can spot it, too.

Why Global Warming Hits the Arctic Harder Than Anywhere Else.

Leonardo DiCaprio’s Climate Change Doc ‘Before the Flood’ Was Preaching to the Choir. It’s a familiar trope: the celebrity with a conscience who takes it upon themself to bear witness to the tragedies of the world and report back to us via an earnest, whose overtly sentimental documentary and call to action. And while some manage to transcend this stigma, more often than not the final product is factually lopsided, marred by vanity,
or simply not vital.
Basically, such films have made this writer a skeptic of celebrity-fronted activism-
oriented films. Which, for the most part, is exactly what Leonardo DiCaprio’s documentary, “Before the Flood” is a globe hopping effort to sound the climate
change alarm.

The only problem is — unless you’ve been hiding out in a Cold War-era bunker,
you already know about climate change, and you’ve gone ahead and picked a side.

This out of touch sensation is certainly the largest issue that plagues “Before the Flood.” Much of the film takes place before the Paris Agreement, which in light of its ratification and its hot button status on the campaign trail, already feels like old news. But really it simply feels like a film working to make us believe that climate change is happening. DiCaprio hops onto helicopters to fly over oil sands, ice caps, and Indonesian jungles, he walks deserted islands, measures Greenland’s ice melt, and hangs out with endangered species, all while in a state of continual shock at the already extreme impact of global warming. Which is not to say he’s a phony or that his film is gimmicky, rather that such a world-renowned celebrity is not always the best cipher to establish relatability, let alone credibility.

image.png
The structure of “Before the Flood” is rather straightforward.

The film primarily comes from DiCaprio’s perspective, and as such opens with
him recounting a painting that once hung over his crib that conveniently serves as a metaphor for human-caused climate change. From there the film sets out with DiCaprio, newly anointed as the United Nations Messenger of Peace for climate change, as he attempts to see the impact it has had firsthand.
And, on the off chance that someone had managed to miss every documentary or TV special about global warming or carbon emissions, the first third of “Before the Flood” could be as enlightening as it is competently crafted. Despite the desire to want to be annoyed with DiCaprio for his heart-on-sleeve approach, he is a humble, thoughtful,
and educated guide who is genuinely more interested in hearing what the experts he
has collected have to say than simply relating facts himself.

Essentially, the film, as directed by Oscar winner Fisher Stevens (“The Cove”), is a well-crafted, well-intentioned attempt to highlight a dire problem that all of its viewers will already understand. It will, more or less, wind up preaching to the choir and change no minds at all. In part, that’s because where “Before the Flood” stumbles are exactly where it could have transcended into something relevant.
Early on DiCaprio notes that the film will offer up ideas for how individuals can help on a day-to-day basis but save for a few minor notes about substituting chicken for beef and avoiding products that use palm oil, “Before the Flood” drops the ball. How much water is in Earth’s atmosphere? (microsoftnewskids.com)

image.png
Enric Sala and Leonardo DiCaprio explore the Arctic in the new film Before the Flood.

And frankly there isn’t even much new information to help separate the film from
the pantheon of the genre. Really, it’s DiCaprio and the access afforded by his fame
that seem to be the only driving forces. But then again, how much fault should a film
bear for attempting to continue the conversation, as circular as it may now be,
in order to hopefully shake apathetic Americans from their languid stupor.

Climate change is an urgent issue (if you don’t think so, you probably aren’t reading
this review, let alone watching this bleeding-heart of a movie) and something needs to
be done about it. “Before The Flood” doesn’t offer up many solutions — though Elon Musk is eternally and brilliantly optimistic as usual — but does succeed in putting the burden on us: dutiful consumers, Americans, America. If real change is going to happen, it’s got to start here. [C+]
In his new documentary, Before the Flood, Leonardo DiCaprio takes viewers on an eye-opening tour of how climate change is affecting the planet’s oceans right now, from rising seas threatening Miami to the perilously melting Arctic. Explorer and marine biologist Enric Sala talks about Leonardo DiCaprio’s new documentary, Before the Flood.

One of the experts DiCaprio meets in the film is Enric Sala, a marine biologist and National Geographic explorer-in-residence. Sala is working to study, document, and protect some of the most biologically important areas of the ocean through Pristine Seas project.

We spoke with Sala about his work and role in the new film.
In Before the Flood, you take DiCaprio to the tip of Canada’s Baffin Island in the far Arctic. There, you warn that by 2040 the Arctic will have no sea ice left. Can you tell us what that will mean for the environment and for us?
The melting of the sea ice has consequences on all levels, from local to global.
Locally, all the animals that live up there have evolved to live with the sea ice, so its disappearance will have major effects through the entire food web.

For example, there are certain algae that need to live under the ice.
Those organisms are an important food source for little shrimplike creatures called amphipods. Those organisms, in turn, are eaten by Arctic cod, which are eaten by seals, which are eaten by polar bears. There are projections that the polar bear population is going to crash as the ice keeps melting. Already in the Beaufort Sea, we have seen a 30 percent decline in the polar bear population.
Melting sea ice also sets up a feedback loop. Ice reflects a lot of the sun’s energy back up toward space, while open water absorbs more of that heat. So, the less ice and the more water, the more the planet warms. (Read about the astronaut who is using his final days
to fight for climate change awareness.)

You also said the Arctic is like the air-conditioning of the Northern Hemisphere,
affecting weather patterns, currents, and disasters like droughts and floods.
Can you explain how this works?
A warming Arctic is going to affect our planet’s systems of ocean currents and wind patterns, which help drive a lot of our weather. Now, there is a giant conveyor belt in which cold water that forms near the edge of sea ice sinks, only to be replaced by warmer water from the south. This process makes the British Isles comfortable to live in — for example, instead of frigid. But this whole conveyor system is in danger of disruption as
the poles warm.
As the Arctic warms, it may also impact air currents, such as the jet stream, which drives a lot of weather in North America by blocking or shuttling cold air. In the film you call the warming of the Arctic “the most dramatic transformation of a large environment ever.” Can you explain why this part of the world is so susceptible to climate change?
The Arctic is warming two to three times faster than the average for the rest of the planet. It’s ironic, because the carbon emissions that are warming the planet are not produced in the Arctic, yet the Arctic is suffering the most. At the same time, what happens there is going to affect the rest of the planet.
Part of the problem is that at lower latitudes you often have more mixing of air and water, but the Arctic is more isolated at the top of the world. Also, warming of one or two degrees there has a bigger impact than other places because that’s enough to melt a huge amount of ice. That leads to dramatic changes in the landscape and sets up that feedback loop that leads to even more warming.

As the planet warms, species in temperate zones have been migrating northward.
But Arctic species have nowhere to go. That’s a problem of living at the top of the world.
In Before the Flood, we also meet local guide Jake Awa of Pond Inlet, who says the ice around his home used to be thick and solid, but now it is often the consistency of ice cream. Awa relies on hunting polar bears and other Arctic animals for much of his livelihood. How are indigenous people affected by climate change?

A warming Arctic is going to impact the people who live up there.
The animals they depend on, such as seals and polar bears, are going to decline,
so they are going to have a hard time preserving their hunting traditions.
Beyond the Arctic, the rest of the world’s ocean is also under threat from a changing climate, right? How serious is the problem?

For the past 40 years or so, the Earth has absorbed more heat from the sun than it has reflected away, and about 90 percent of that has been stored in the ocean. That means
if the ocean wasn’t there, the lower parts of the atmosphere—where we live—would be
36 degrees Celsius (97 degrees Fahrenheit) warmer! Earth would be like Venus: uninhabitable. Bye-bye economy, bye-bye human race.
The ocean absorbs a quarter of the carbon dioxide we put in the atmosphere every year. Unfortunately, all that heat is raising the temperature of the ocean, which is killing corals. That leads to the decline of the fish and other organisms that depend on corals.
And all that carbon dioxide dissolving in the ocean is making the water more acidic.
That makes it hard for corals, oysters, and other animals to make their shells.
So that puts the entire food web at risk.

image.png
How does your work leading the Pristine Seas project—which is helping save
the ocean’s natural treasures—also help us address global warming?

The 2 Degrees Institute: By protecting huge chunks of the ocean from all other human impacts, such as fishing, mining, and oil exploration, we make these places stronger, healthier, and more able to adapt to warming events.
As an analogy, if you get the Zika virus, you are more likely to survive if you were otherwise healthy than if you already had other health problems.
So, we are trying to help make the marine environment healthier and more resilient.
We’re buying time while countries figure out how to keep warming at less than 2° Celsius, which is what we need to do to avoid the worst impacts of climate change.

What else needs to happen to better safeguard our future from a changing climate?
There is really only one solution to climate change: to dramatically reduce our carbon emissions. Everything else, such as reforestingcapturing carbon dioxide, et cetera,
are really mechanisms to achieve that goal.
At the same time, we need to develop clean, renewable energy technologies.
Several countries have shown this is feasible and great for the economy.
Denmark has slashed its use of fossil fuels and will soon use none, yet their gross domestic product has gone up. And they were named the happiest country on the planet by the United Nations. Other countries are on their way, such as Germany and Norway.
Those who want to polarize us between either economic growth with pollution or economic stagnation with sustainability is wrong.
(Learn about how carbon taxes may play a role.)
What do you think are the most important things ordinary people can do to address
these big problems? There are so many things’ people can do.
But if it were one thing, I’d say eat more vegetables and less meat. One of the biggest ecological footprints is our meat consumption. To raise cattle, forests are being cut down, especially in the developing world, and that creates a huge amount of emissions.
Cattle also release methane, which is a powerful greenhouse gas.

I rarely eat meat (beef), and I have never felt better.
When you introduce DiCaprio to the narwhals off Baffin Island in the film,
and he hears their unique, purrlike sounds, viewers can really see the pure joy on his face.
How important do you think it is that everyone experience such joy from nature?

We only protect what we love. There is nobody who goes out into nature and experiences something extraordinary like that and doesn’t feel a sense of awe and wonder.
Being in nature brings back the kid in us, that sense of wonder and curiosity.
It’s also good for our health and minds. People should spend more time outside.
For those who can’t go to pristine places, we try to share that experience through our National Geographic films and media. Still, nothing beats firsthand experience.

Before the Flood Full Movie National Geographic – Bing video
What main message do you hope people take away from this documentary?
This film comes at a very important moment. The world is not debating whether
climate change exists, except for a few fringe outliers.
World leaders came together in Paris last winter and agreed to reduce emissions so
that global temperature does not increase more than 2 degrees Celsius compared to preindustrial levels, in order to avoid catastrophic climate change.
In my opinion, one of the biggest values of the film is the strong sense of urgency.
We have to act now.

And for those of us in the U.S., the film comes right before an important election.
People should ask themselves, who do we want for a leader on this issue?

What was the experience of working on the film Before the Flood like?
It was really fun to have Leo and [director] Fisher [Stevens] up there on the ice with us.
It was wonderful to get to share the outstanding beauty of the Arctic. It was also a great privilege to add one more voice to the film, to show people what’s going on.

It’s also a responsibility as a scientist to remind people what’s at stake.

COVID-19 hospitalizations in the United States could reach a new record high by Friday.
Hospitalizations have spiked in recent weeks to almost 123,000 as the more infectious but probably less deadly Omicron variant takes its place as the dominant strain of the virus.

The record currently stands at around 132,000. Hospitals are being overloaded as cases flood in and infected health care workers are forced to call off. Even as hospitalizations from the virus increase, though, deaths remain steady.

Additionally, many analysts have expressed concerns that hospitalization numbers are overinflated. Data released Friday by New York Gov. Kathy Hochul revealed that for more than half of the COVID patients in New York City hospitals, “COVID was not included as one of the reasons for admission,” Fox News reported.
In other words, it is likely that many of these patients were admitted to the hospital for reasons entirely unrelated to COVID and then just happened to test positive. However, NBC New York reports that although this data suggests Omicron is a “milder” strain, only “people who are fully vaccinated” should feel reassured.
The number of COVID-19 patients in the Cincinnati area’s hospitals hit the highest level
in a year Thursday as the positivity rate for new COVID-19 tests also hit a new record at 30.1%.

On Friday, the number of new cases per 100,000 residents, as measured by a 7-day moving average, rose to hit new pandemic records in the region’s biggest counties,
capping a week — when new records were set in each county on every day but one.
The region’s reported death toll also rose by more than 50 people in a single day.
Meanwhile, Ohio has broken its daily COVID-19 hospitalization record for 10 days straight.

As of Friday, there were 6,570 Ohioans with the virus being treated in Ohio hospitals.
The pressure on the Cincinnati area’s 40 hospitals came at the end of a week that started with three local health systems saying Monday they were postponing or limiting some elective surgeries due to the latest COVID-19 surge. The hospitals used the same tactic
in the spring of 2020 in the first wave of the pandemic to keep the health systems from crashing.

COVID at home: What do I need, doc? Tips on self-care
The pandemic is forcing more hospitals across the state to limit some surgeries,
Ohio health officials said at a briefing Friday morning. The hospitals that made the shift midweek included Premier Health, which operates Atrium Medical Center in Middletown, and Kettering Health System, which operates Kettering Health Hamilton.
The surge in cases is due to the more contagious omicron variant of the novel coronavirus.
Covid Tests: Tips on using home kits so you don’t waste them
The city of Cincinnati declared a state of emergency on Dec. 29 because of a lack of fire department staffing. Gov. Mike DeWine that same day mobilized another 1,250 members of the Ohio National Guard to help at the state’s hospitals. , as the more contagious but less dangerous omicron variant of the novel coronavirus takes hold in the state.
Omicron: How its symptoms differ from a cold or the flu
A total of 4,606 residents of the 16-county region have been reported as dying of
COVID-19, an Enquirer analysis shows. A total of 402,301 cases of the illness have been reported. That number may not reflect the full picture because some people have had the disease more than once – and an untold number of infections aren’t in the total because they were discovered by people using in-home tests and were not reported to health officials.
What’s happening in Cincinnati hospitals
Roughly 27% of all patients in local hospitals right now have COVID-19.
Regional hospitals continue to define their strain using the terms: “critical operations.”

As of Thursday, the last date for which data is publicly available, the Cincinnati region’s
40 hospitals had the highest number of COVID-19 cases since January 2021 with 862  patients (182 in intensive care and 129 on ventilators). Of the region’s 513 intensive care beds, 102% were full, according to the Health Collaborative’s Situational Dashboard. That means that 10 additional beds had to be converted into ICU beds. Meanwhile; 97% of the region’s roughly 2,500 medical-surgical beds were full.

What’s happening with infections?
The rate at which the novel coronavirus is reproducing locally indicates there is community spread of the contagion.
The situational dashboard reports the R naught, a value that measures spread, for the region and individual areas of it for the last seven days. Thursday’s reading for the region was 1.42, according to the Health Collaborative’s Situational Dashboard. In Hamilton County, it was 1.4. Any reading over 1 indicates community spread of the virus.

Remove distractions, sit tall, focus on your breath, visualize light entering in through your nose as you breathe in and the negative energy leaving your body as you exhale through your mouth.
If you have physical pain, you can put one hand on the area and visualize the negative energy from that pain moving from the area into your hand… and then let it go, shake it out, and throw it away.

COVID-Positive Nurses Are in Our Hospitals.
But Biden’s Mandate Forbids Unvaccinated Ones.

USA Today via Yahoo! News reported:
https://www.yahoo.com/now/covid-positive-nurses-hospitals-bidens-100122169.html

The Biden administration has consistently portrayed vaccines as a pandemic panacea.
In July, Biden promised, “You’re not going to get COVID if you have these vaccinations.”

Biden vastly overstated vaccine efficacy in part because the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had ceased to count the vast majority of breakthrough infections several months earlier. The Washington Post reported that the CDC’s “overly rosy assessments of the vaccines’ effectiveness against Delta…may have lulled Americans into a false sense of security.”

Across the nation, thousands of health care workers have been fired for refusing to get injected, including many who have natural immunity after surviving COVID-19 infections.
According to the Biden administration’s policies, it is better for hospital patients to be treated by COVID-positive nurses and workers (whose COVID-19 vaccinations failed to safeguard them from the virus) than by unvaccinated nurses with no COVID.

Make 2022: A HEALTHIER ~ HAPPY YOU

Heather Graham in a Bathing Suit Says, “HELLO & Happy New Year!”

Heather is enjoying the first days of 2022 in the tropics!
The star, who is set to turn 52 later this month Born Jan 29, 1970, looks half her age in the latest Instagram selfie posted to her account. In it, she flaunts her fabulous figure in black swimsuit top while standing on a beach surrounded by crystal clear water. “Happy New Year!” she captioned the image. Read on for 6 of Heather Graham’s top tips for staying in shape and the photos that prove they work—and to get beach-ready yourself, don’t miss these essential 30 Best-Ever Celebrity Bathing Suit Photos!

TIPS FOR A HEALTHIER YOU:

1. Health Benefits of Fresh Air and Sunshine

The shadow rule – Cancer Research UK
Vitamin D, also known as the “sunshine vitamin,” is synthesized in the skin following direct exposure to UVB rays. However, the UV index must be over 3 to make vitamin D, which usually occurs around midday between 10am and 2pm. It is important to note that depending on the time of year, latitude, weather, air pollution, and geographical location, UV index varies tremendously.

Click to Watch Video
If we need to be outside while the sun is at its peak to make vitamin D, then why have we been told for decades by health organizations to avoid midday sun exposure? For years, Americans have followed guidelines saying to get their sunshine in the morning and later in the afternoon to make vitamin D and prevent burning. However, early morning and early evening light only provide us with UVA sunlight (good for making nitric oxide), not UVB which is necessary for vitamin D production.
While it is important to prevent burning, completely avoiding midday sun causes us to miss out on the full benefits of sun exposure. These outdated guidelines may help explain why 80% of Americans are still deficient in vitamin D!
Check out these easy ways to tell if you are making vitamin D from the sun!
Watch the video for some simple ways to know if you are making vitamin D from the sun. First, check the UV index. You can do this on your smart phone using the weather app and plugging in your location. Or, you can use the free dminder app – an app that tracks sunlight and vitamin D production to maximize your body’s vitamin D generation while helping to prevent burning. If the UV index is over 3, then you are in the clear for making vitamin D! If not, the sunlight isn’t strong enough for your skin to be able to make any.

Second, while you are outside in the sunshine, look at your shadow. Is it shorter than you are? All you have to do is look at the ground to see if the length of your shadow is shorter than your height. It’s that easy! If your shadow is shorter than your height, the sun is high enough in the sky to let UVB rays shine through and reach the ground, and your skin!

Some other important factors to consider when trying to make vitamin D from sun exposure: Do You Have Enough Vitamin D to Support a Healthy Immune System?

Latitude and season – those closer to the equator, where the midday sun is high in the sky throughout the year, have the ability to produce vitamin D year-round, whereas those north of about 34 degrees latitude (approximately Los Angeles, CA, or Atlanta, GA) experience a “vitamin D winter” for some period of time between fall and early spring when the sun never gets high enough in the sky to enable vitamin D production.
Clothing and sunscreen – greater amounts of vitamin D are made when more skin is exposed, without sunscreen, especially the back and shoulders, as these contain the most surface areas on your body. It is better to expose more skin for less time to ensure you do not overexpose yourself and burn. Ideally your skin should be exposed to the sun on a 90-degree angle.
Time in the sun – under the right conditions, the body can produce 10,000 to 25,000 IU of vitamin D with full body exposure — in just under the time it takes for your skin to turn pink, but not on your first day out in the sun after a long winter. You should increase your exposure time gradually as this allows your skin to adapt to the sun’s intensity.
As the season gets warmer and sunnier, exposed skin will adapt to produce a tan.
You never have to worry about making too much vitamin D from the sun because your body self-regulates by stopping production when it has reached its limit.
Skin color – it will take an individual with darker skin more time in the sun
compared to a lighter skinned individual to produce the same amount of vitamin D.
It is important to be mindful of your skin type and avoid burning.
Age – as a person ages, their skin’s ability to produce vitamin D decreases.
Time of day – vitamin D production is strongest mid-day between 10am and 2pm. Follow the Shadow Rule – if you are taller than your shadow is long, then your exposed skin can make vitamin D.
Also keep in mind that the quality of sun exposure is important for vitamin D synthesis. Cloud coverage, air pollution, sunscreen, and shade cast off from buildings all disrupt the direct contact of sunlight on our skin.

We’re in a time of great crisis that could be greatly affected by making sure you and everyone you know has a serum level of at least 40 ng/ml.

Help us help you.
Do you know what your vitamin D level is? Be sure to test today to find out and take steps to keep it within a target of 40-60 ng/ml or 100-150 nmol/L! Give your immune system the nutrients it needs to support a healthy you and protect yourself from unnecessary diseases.

Through GrassrootsHealth Nutrient Research Institute, you can also test your essential elements magnesium, copper, zinc and selenium, toxins such as lead, mercury and cadmium, as well as your omega-3 levels, inflammation levels and thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) level.  Log on to the test selection page (click the link below) to get your tests and see for yourself if your levels can be improved.

Find out your levels today!

Make sure you track your results before and after, about every 6 months!
Whether you burn easily or you are resistant to sunburn, managing your exposure to
UVR (ultraviolet radiation) from the sun is important. There are times when it’s safer to be outside with minimal protection, and there are other times when it’s foolish to walk outdoors unprotected. It’s time for the shadow rule (instructions below)!
Wouldn’t it be nice if there was an easy way to tell when you need to go the extra mile to add protection versus when you don’t have to worry about it? It’s simple: Watch your shadow.

According to the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) and the WHO (World Health Organization), watching your shadow can indirectly help you determine the sun’s altitude throughout the day. You can use “the shadow rule” to tell you how much UVR you’re being exposed to.

Here’s how it works:
Is your shadow taller than you? You have less UVR exposure. This is typical of the early morning and/or late afternoon/early evening. You’re safe to be outside with less protection.
Is your shadow shorter than you? That means you have higher UVR exposure. It’s time to cover up to protect your skin! Wear a hat and clothing that provide protection from the sun, choose to slather on a safe sunscreen, and/or seek shade or head inside.
In other words, if you have a short shadow, add extra sun protection. It’s such an easy way to determine when the sun’s rays are most intense and potentially damaging.

Eating Habits for a Stronger Heart After 50
Having a strong heart in your 50s is crucial, especially because your heart undergoes major changes as you age. For example, the National Institute of Aging emphasizes the fact that your heart is a muscle, which means it can naturally grow weaker over time.
And although your heart doesn’t undergo major changes until around your mid-60s, it’s still important to focus on your heart health right now, especially if you’re already in your 50s.
Thankfully, there are certain foods and eating habits that can help you build a strong heart at any time, with only some minor adjustments.
Continue reading to learn about the eating habits that can help you maintain a healthy heart, and for more on how to eat healthy, make sure you avoid these 100 Unhealthiest Foods on the Planet. Read the original article on Eat This, Not That!

1. Avoid diet sodas
When it comes to drinking soda, both regular and diet have their own dangers related to health. But according to Arika Hoscheit, RDN with Paloma Health, “diet sodas and other artificially sweetened beverages are counterproductive when it comes to heart health.”
Some people may assume that going for diet soda can help them lose weight and save calories, but it’s important to be aware that diet sodas can harm your heart health in serious ways.
Artificially-sweetened drinks are associated with an increased risk of cardiometabolic diseases,” says Hoscheit, “and one study even shows that daily consumption of diet soda may cause a 36% greater risk of metabolic syndrome and a 67% greater risk of type 2 diabetes when compared with non-diet-soda drinkers.”
And for more, check out these 108 most popular sodas ranked by how toxic they are.

2. Eat more fruits and vegetables
Eating enough fruits and vegetables can help with many different health problems and can help lower your risk of a number of diseases. And when it comes to heart health specifically, this is an important habit to adopt.
“The compounds of vegetables and fruit that protect the plants from their natural enemies, in turn, protect us from some of ours such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and brain deterioration,” says Judy Barbe, RD and author of Your 6-Week Guide to LiveBest.
Anna Rios, RDN agrees, adding that “vegetables are filled with fiber, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, and these powerful micronutrients work together to fight heart disease and keep your cholesterol levels low.”

image.png

3. Eat fish
Eating fish and other sources of healthy fats can help you keep a strong, healthy heart, especially if it replaces some of the sources of unhealthy fats in your daily diet.
“The omega-3s that you get from eating salmon and other oily fish offer protection against heart attack, stroke, cancer, and inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis,” says Barbe, “and it does this by thinning the blood and preventing it from sticking to your artery walls, which helps lower the risk for blocked arteries and heart attacks.”

4. Eat enough fiber
Incorporating enough fiber into your daily diet is crucial for better heart health and lowering cholesterol, which is especially important as you get older.
“Choose high-fiber foods such as whole grains, beans, lentils, fruits, and nuts,” says Rios, “because soluble fiber binds to cholesterol particles in the small intestine, preventing it from entering your bloodstream, and lower cholesterol levels protect your heart health.”

Benefits of Drinking Water for your Heart benefits of drinking water infographic

5. The Importance of Water – The Heart Foundation
Drinking water supplies essential minerals and hydration for a healthy heart
Lifesaving benefits of drinking water for your heart.

Did you know? A glass of water could prevent a heart attack!

The benefit of drinking a glass of water an hour before bedtime is that the water helps your body remain hydrated while you sleep. If you become dehydrated when you sleep, your blood viscosity increases, and that makes your heart work harder. Drinking a glass of water an hour before bed is also associated with reduced risk of stroke as well.
Hydration and your Heart
When you lose just 1% of your body weight in water, you are dehydrated. Dehydration makes your heart work harder because it makes your blood thicker. Dehydration also reduces your body’s ability to regulate its temperature, which can make dehydration worse if you’re hot. Drinking water before bed, and throughout the day is essential for good heart health. Click here for information on when to drink water

Drinking Water, Mineral Deficiency and High Blood Pressure
Minerals from drinking water have a role in heart health The World Health Organization recommends that you get 10 – 20% of your recommended daily allowance for minerals from drinking water because your body absorbs minerals from drinking water 30% faster and easier from water than it does from food. Mineral deficiency is a health epidemic, and magnesium deficiency, in particular, is a major risk factor for heart attacks. Even if you get enough calcium and magnesium in your diet, your body may not be able to absorb those minerals effectively from your food. However, even if you have problems absorbing minerals from food, your body will still easily absorb them from the water.
The best water to drink for mineral nutrition is alkaline water. Alkaline water hydrates better than plain water, and has a higher concentration of the beneficial minerals you need to get for better health. Research shows that drinking alkaline water can lead to reduced blood pressure, better bone health, weight loss, and many other benefits.
Click here to learn how to get essential minerals from drinking alkaline water
Where to get Alkaline Water
A home water ionizer is the best way to get alkaline water. The machines filter water and then use a process called electrodialysis to separate water into alkaline mineral and acidic mineral fractions. The great thing about an alkaline water machine is that it never runs out. You get enough water for cooking, drinking, and have plenty for your family. Water from a home ionizer is also cleaner than spring water. Sadly, this is because many of the Earth’s natural springs have become contaminated by pollution. A water ionizer filters out the toxins found in tap water, ensuring every glass of water you drink is clean. Alkaline water from a water ionizer tastes better than plain water too.

Water Can Provide Joint Pain Relief and Healing:
Since arthritis pain and stiffness is a result of joints not being properly cushioned, water can help by lubricating and providing padding for these areas. Also, these symptoms are a result of increased friction between the cartilage surfaces. When the joints move, a suction pulls water from the bone marrow to the joint cavity– if there is available water. If there is not enough water, the joints can’t glide as they should. So, an increased water intake and being hydrated can keep that water supply there– and reduce some of the pain. Lack of hydration will produce friction and shearing stress at the contact point of the joint. In the case of severe dehydration, dry cartilage may die and peel from their contact surface of the bones. Also, with gout, it can also remove uric acid and other toxins. Gout is a painful disease that is caused by deposits of uric acid crystals in the bloodstream, ending up in the joints of the body. It is characterized by pain, swelling, redness, and heat/inflammation as well as stiffness in a joint or joints. Gout is also a form of arthritis, or inflammation of the joints, and is more common for men. Water will also provide relief for people suffering from gout.

Exercise to Strengthen your Bones and Muscles:
Like in osteoporosis, water exercise is also a very effective means of both reducing pain and staying in shape. When one has arthritis, they usually do not want to move their joints more than they have to. However, if staying in one place too long, the ligaments can tighten causing more pain. Regular exercise can help with flexibility and strength, as well as get the body in shape to do everyday tasks.
Water exercise is a gentle way to exercise joints and muscles. Just being in the water allows the muscles to relax. The soothing heat and buoyancy of warm water make it a safe, ideal environment for relieving arthritis pain and stiffness. Also, water creates resistance which builds muscle strength. Using a spa can massage your body and help you relax tight muscles.

Living Comfortably with Arthritis
To summarize, arthritis is a disorder that can be treated and managed with proper care, nutrition and exercise. People with joint pain should make sure they are well hydrated at all times and avoid drinking fluoridated tap water as water plays a big role in healing joint pain. Exercise is also beneficial. Just because you have arthritis does not mean you must limit all movement, so go and enjoy more relaxing exercises such as walking, yoga, swimming, and golf! 6. Is Working Out 20 Minutes a Day Enough?

Exercise just 20 minutes a day 20 minutes? Even YOU have time for that!
Things that take just 20 minutes…. gearing yourself up to actually workout, scrolling through Instagram, deciding your most recent caption and thinking about what to cook for dinner… something to add to the list, just 20 minutes of movement that will help you work up a sweat and TRANSFORM your body.

Contrary to the old-fashioned belief that a grueling 1 – 2-hour session in the gym or a long, boring and quite frankly painful run pounding the pavements is what you need to get fitter, stronger, more toned and lose weight, working out for 20 minutes (yes just 20!) comes with a plethora of life – changing benefits (not to mention it is FAR more enjoyable).

4 Benefits of dedicating just 20 minutes a day to exercise.
These short, sweaty and hugely effective workouts are NO joke. Have a read of these benefits to find a reason to schedule just 20 minutes a day for movement:
Faster results
We are all familiar with HIIT (high intensity interval training) and the reason for this is quite simple – it REALLY works. Short bursts of effective, smart cardio get’s the blood pumping, the heart racing and the muscles working quickly and effectively. Research has proven that working out for 10 minutes at high intensity intervals is as effective for cardiovascular endurance as a 45-minute run. nix offers a plethora of these high intensity classes, head to the live workouts section to get involved! https://www.niix.fit/live-classes/

Burn more calories
Let’s face it, burning calories is a huge reason why a lot of us choose to exercise. So if I told you you get more back for your buck with regards to calories in just 20 minutes you would want it right? Research suggests that calorie burn, along with cardiovascular endurance, paired with a healthy diet is far more effective in short, high intensity activity than a steady long run/jog. Sign me up! Not to mention the calorie burning benefits just keep on coming with this type of activity (long after you have kicked your trainers off and finished sweating). Regular, consistent HIIT training can actually improve your metabolic rate keeping unwanted weight at bay.

Stay youthful
The gifts just keep on giving. Research has proven short, sharp and intense 20-minute workouts to have a profound, beneficial effect on aging. As we age, the less efficient our energy producing cells become. By performing regular HIIT training this ability actually improves and can slow down the aging process if performed consistently.

Improve your mental health
We all know about the benefits of physical activity on our physical health, but do we actually consider our mental health and wellbeing. These shorter workouts reduce the feel-good hormone endorphins at a far quicker rate than a long-winded jog or gym session. These workouts are far easier for us to schedule in and manage within our busy schedules meaning we are far more likely to wake up and do the workout and receive the desired benefits.
Just 20 minutes does not seem like a chore and therefore keeps us looking forward to our workouts rather than dreading them and writing it off altogether. While ‘high intensity’ sounds daunting at first, it is widely recognized that this type of workout is considered fun, varied and enjoyable. Never Forgotten

Dr. Carl O. Helvie: Lived: AUGUST 13, 1932 – DECEMBER 3, 2019. RiP

Before Carl O Helvie departed this life on December 2, 2019, I was privileged to have gotten to know him well from my days on Facebook. Carl was a man of true integrity, profound compassion, empathy for others and abiding faith. He genuinely cared about every person in his life and never met a stranger. Within minutes of meeting, he made you feel valued, knew your name, your family members’ names, and what was important to you. Every aspect of his life reflected his values which shined brightly in his commitment to public service.

For Carl, one of the highlights of his career was his work with the homeless through implementing clinical experiences for students with the homeless and providing direct nursing care as well as serving as a member of two boards that served the homeless population. His grant-funded work as Director of the ODU Nursing Center provided primary health care for local homeless and low-income populations and he advocated for them in the community. He visited homeless programs throughout central Europe and met with several practitioners and educators working with the homeless. These experiences led to his book entitled, Homelessness in the United States, Europe, and Russia. Carl served as Chair and in other leadership positions with the Homeless Caucus of the American Public Health Association. Because of his work, he was awarded the Distinguished Career in Public Health Award by the American Public Health Association in 1999.
As a lung cancer survivor since a 1974 diagnosis, Carl was passionate about holistic, alternative and integrative health and wellness interventions. In 2014, he founded the
Carl O. Helvie Holistic Cancer Foundation dedicated to providing public education on the use of holistic medical/health information as a form of prevention and cancer treatment with additional goals of supporting research and raising awareness of holistic practices.
A dream sparked a significant turning point in Helvie’s life in 1974.
In the dream, he received the message that he needed to get an X-ray. He had no symptoms, but the X-rays revealed a spot on his lungs that was diagnosed as lung cancer. Reviewing his experience as a nurse, he surprised the doctor by refusing the prescription for surgery. The doctor responded by pronouncing, “You’ll be dead in six months.”

A friend of a friend at the National Cancer Institute had success with a program
that included laetrile, a raw fruit and vegetable diet, and an exercise program. Helvie began the regimen and incorporated his own program of prayer, meditation, and positive visualization. When asked about the controversy surrounding the use of laetrile, Helvie described how the body uses certain enzymes involved in protein digestion to work with the laetrile.
In his experience, part of his program’s success was due to following nutrition guidelines. Eating meat or fish prevented those enzymes from being available for the laetrile. In due course, Helvie was pronounced cancer-free and has been cancer-free ever since.
The importance of living a holistic life; “that lifestyle was very important in staying healthy; incorporate spirituality and enjoy what you’re doing in life.
If you’re not staying positive, you’re not attracting positivity back to you.
” Dr. Carl O’ Helvie had a dream one night to go get a chest x-ray. What he found out
from the lab results wasn’t good news. They found a spot on his lung that turned out
to be cancer. It was a devastating diagnosis back 39 years ago.”

 Talk about an inspiring guy!
Dr. Carl O’ Helvie got diagnosed with lung cancer back in 1974. He was told by his doctors right away that they needed to operate on his lung with an extensive and invasive surgery. They also told him that they needed to do chemotherapy and radiation treatments.
He didn’t accept what they had to say especially after looking into the low survival rates along with the nasty side effects of the chemotherapy. Against his doctors wishes along with his family and friends.
Dr. Helvie decided to pursue natural and alternative lung cancer treatments 39 years
ago in 1974. Back then that was a radical thing to do for treatment of such a disease.
Today, I feel like alternative and holistic cancer treatments are starting to become
much more mainstream, thanks to the internet.

Lung Cancer Healed with Natural Therapies (Dr Carl O’Helvie) ⁄ Healing Cancer with Alternative Methods (cancercompassalternateroute.com)

Everybody that succeeds in LIFE at something had a mentor.
I am proud to say Carl was one of mine. I took the privilege of interviewing with
Carl on his The Holistic Health Show | BBS Radio May 4, 2019. 🙂

Carl passed away December 3, 2019, at the age of 87. Carl and I became friends on Facebook as he often contributed to an Alternative Health Group that I had managed.
He always took his time to answer questions from our members and gave away free
copies of his book. I truly miss Carl’s generous spirit.

In 1974, Carl O Helvie was diagnosed with Lung cancer and only given 6 months to live.
Doctors wanted to do surgery and remove the cancerous tumor, but Carl had worked in the medical industry. Decided to take his time and explore the Holistic Alternative that was available to him. Carl was able to find a Holistic Doctor who was willing to offer him guidance and together they came up with some very effective non-toxic therapies in order to treat his cancer. YOU WILL FIND THEM LISTED BELOW!!!

THE NATURAL THERAPIES THAT CARL USED:

– He ate a diet made up of 75% raw fruits and vegetables, along with complex grains and various nuts and seeds (But not peanuts.)
– He eliminated all meat and dairy from his diet.
– He eliminated all sugar and simple carbohydrates from his diet white rice, potatoes, breads and other refined grains.
– He used the Budwig Protocol which is said to oxygenate the blood. This protocol consists of eating a mixture of flaxseed and cottage cheese. Difference between cottage cheese and German Quark. (Use German Quark). A general recipe is to mix 6 tablespoons of (German Quark) with 3 tablespoons of flaxseed oil and thoroughly blend the two together (a hand blender works well for this, then let the mixture sit for five minutes. The mixture can be eaten as is. or topped with pecans, walnuts or organic berries, or it can be a topping for a green salad or blended with fruit or vegetables into a smoothie.  You can read more about the Budwig protocol with this link
– He did a regular fruit and vegetable juice fast for one daily monthly. Juicing is a tremendous way to supply the body with nutrients and can also be helpful in detoxifying the body
A GREEN JUICE RECIPE TO HEAL EVERY DISEASE!
– He ate 25 Apricot Seeds, everyday
– He took 2000 mgs of Vitamin B17 taken in divided doses during the day,
1/2 hour before mealtimes. Read more about B17 and Apricot Seeds here.
– He took Nature’s Way DMG-B15 Complex for Efficient Oxygen Use in The Body,
which benefits the immune system and has anti-cancer properties and is a companion supplement to B-17. Dosage is 500 my daily.
– He supplemented with zinc which is a supplement for those taking laetrile
as it helps to transport laetrile into the cells.
– Pancreatic enzymes were taken between meals to help to soften the protein layer that surrounds the cancerous tumors and hides themself from the immune system. They are also recommended for those using laetrile as part of their protocol. You can learn more about systemic enzyme with this link nutricology enzymes – Bing video

– Used Positive Thinking and Positive Affirmations
– Set aside time for daily meditation and prayer

NOTE: Carl’s Therapy is a Protocol you can’t take one without the other.
Together all have a synergistic effect.

Dr Julian Kenyon – The Dove Clinic states that Carl was a courageous man to follow his instincts back in 1974 with a life-threatening disease and finding a cure, this is impressive, and everybody should read his book who wants to learn more about Alternative medicine.

Frank Shallenberger, MD, HMD, ABAAM states I have been treating conventional chemotherapy treatments failures for years. Other than Leukemia and Lymphoma, conventional chemo is almost always a death sentence. There is always a more effective way to treat advanced cancer. And Dr, Carl O’Helvie book You Can Beat Lung Cancer: Using Alternative/Integrative Interventions eBook : Kindle Store describes some of the most effective.

In addition, his work will help anyone fighting cancer learn more how to do it successfully. You will find information on the demographics and politics of cancer and chapters written by various doctors successfully treating cancer effectively with alternative medical intervention and nutritionally interventions Longest Lung Cancer Survivor Used Laetrile and Other Holistic Natural Interventions – YouTube

Dr. Carl O’ Helvie – How He Survived Lung Cancer For 39 Years Without
Chemotherapy, Surgery Or Radiation! – Extreme Health Radio April 22. 2013

Reached by phone at his home in Virginia, he shared some thoughts about his journey to wellness on this internet interview. Kate and I had a great time speaking with Dr. Carl O’ Helvie at 81 revolutions around the sun in the link above. Carl had a lot of insight and wisdom to share especially when it comes to how he treated his lung cancer as well as how he prevents it from coming back again. He eats a lot of raw food, he eats lots of medicinal mushrooms, green juices as well as fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds.
He’s also a big fan of Vitamin B-17 (which is also known as laetrile or amygdalin) from raw apricot kernels.
He has so much energy and is out there doing so much good work it blows your mind. There are people 10 years younger than him in senior centers and old folk’s homes who have diseases like Alzheimer’s and dementia. It just goes to show you that if you take care of this wonderful energetic ecosystem called the human body, you can be happy, healthy and vibrant at 81.

Dr. O’ Helvie is a true inspiration to us all to take care of our health and be a good steward of this body that God has given to us. This brings me to another point he made in the interview. He talked about how prayer, meditation and positive thinking had a tremendous impact on his ability to heal from lung cancer. As we know all disease really is caused by unresolved emotional trauma, conflict or stress. By living in communion with God, meditating and living stress/drama free we can begin to heal the root cause of all disease.

Carl O. Helvie was diagnosed with lung cancer in his 40s. Until his death, he remained cancer-free and convinced that his regimen of federally unapproved laetrile, a vegetarian diet and an assortment of natural medicines, has helped him to reach his 80s. Helvie, a registered nurse with a doctorate in public health, has written a new book, called “You Can Beat Lung Cancer: Using Alternative/Integrative Interventions,” in his belief that natural supplements, herbs, enzymes, along with diet, prayer and meditation helped him beat the disease and prevent a recurrence.

Q&A WITH CARL O’HELVIE.

QUESTION: Why do you think you’re the longest living survivor of lung cancer?
ANSWER: I researched it on the Internet. The longest survivor I could find was a man diagnosed in 1972 who died in 2010. I have communicated with people at a site called Longevity. They have a lot of people on that site who are cancer survivors. And I talked to the woman who runs that site and she’s never heard of anyone who has survived longer. Besides, no one has challenged me on it.
•••
Q: Your new book describes your methods of beating lung cancer.
What do you believe was most responsible for your successful healing?
A:  I credit my faith, my optimism, my doctor and my support system.
My doctor gave me physical care, but I added mental and spiritual care.
•••
Q: Tell me about your doctor.
A: I can’t say enough good things about him. Within five years after I had overcome cancer, the Virginia Board of Medicine took his license. All the poor guy did was try to save lives. He was so progressive that everything he told me to do has since become a proven scientific fact.
•••
Q:  What did your doctor tell you to do that has since become proven scientific fact?
A: He had me on a vegan-type diet. There’s research now that shows the value of fruit and vegetables in preventing and treating cancer. He also had me on a no protein diet and there is a whole theory now as to why you don’t eat protein when you are battling cancer because lot of cooked food, and especially protein, do not get properly digested so the food just sits in the gut and becomes putrefied, which is never a good thing when you’re battling illness. He also put me on pancreatic enzymes. That’s a very important part of the treatment.
•••
Q: You credit a lot of your healing to the power of laetrile (a chemically modified version
of a substance found in the kernels of apricots, peaches and almonds).
Yet it’s not approved by the Food and Drug Administration. Why do you think that is?
A: The laetrile has cyanide in it. Traditional literature says the cyanide can kill you or send you to the emergency room. That can be frightening to people. But the cyanide requires certain enzymes to activate, and cancer cells have those enzymes and normal cells do not.
 •••
Q: I read in your book that you also took apricot kernels, which have laetrile in them.
A:  I took the 2,000 milligrams laetrile every day and I also took 25 apricot kernels at the same time. The apricot kernels are a major source of natural laetrile. They’re very bitter. I chewed them.  I would take three or four and I would chew them up and I would have a glass of water ready. The water would taste sweet after the kernels.
You get used to it, the same way I got used to a vegan diet.
•••
Q: Do you know if anyone has ever been killed by the cyanide in laetrile.
A: No. Edward Griffin wrote a book called “World Without Cancer,” and he wrote that people are killed by aspirin every year, but no one has ever been killed by laetrile.
•••
Q: Is laetrile available now?
A. Yes, and if people get in touch with me, I tell them where they can get it. I prefer not to publish the addresses because as recently as this spring the FDA raided and closed a clinic in Oklahoma because they were using laetrile in their clinic.
•••
Q: You’ve said you counsel cancer patients.  What do you usually advise them to do?
A:  First I find out what they want to do and whether they want to use natural or traditional methods of healing. If they want to use traditional methods, I refer them to books they can read that will tell them how to reduce the symptoms from the treatment.
If they’re interested in natural methods, I will usually send them the chapter I wrote on
the protocol I used …
If they want to go to an alternative physician, depending on if they’ve got money because health insurance won’t pay for it, I give them names of alternative physicians.
•••
Q: Do you counsel them about dealing with the reaction of family members who might prefer they take a traditional route.
A: Actually, I’ve never had to do that, because I’m a nurse. I’ve had people write things occasionally on Internet sites, and someone always comes to my defense.
•••
Q: Do you have any recommendations for those of us who are fairly healthy and want to stay that way?
A: Every day I make this drink in my blender. I take six tablespoons of organic 2 percent cottage cheese and three tablespoons of flax oil. I let it sit for five minutes and then put it in the blender. I add a couple handfuls of pecans, my organic berries, such as strawberries, blueberries or black berries. Then I blend it and it is delicious.
Cancer diet expert Johanna Budwig is the biochemist who developed it and found it has a whole different chemical composition which takes oxygen to the cells. When I went to the doctor yesterday and had my test, my oxygen level in my cells was at 98 percent. That’s fantastic. A lot of people drink it as a precaution.
Q: What else do you recommend for those who want to get well or stay well?
A: I recommend at least one meal with salad a day, the limiting of protein intake in a diet that includes lots of vegetables and lots of nuts. I recommend people pray to God every day — or to some higher being — meditate, get out and exercise, even if it’s just walking. And help people. Do what you can every day to help someone and don’t worry about yourself.

Carl was a deeply caring man, and he was always willing to talk to individuals with cancer diagnoses and to share knowledge on alternative cancer treatments. He worked tirelessly to help cancer patients understand the holistic approaches available to them. Carl received a doctorate in public health from Johns Hopkins University, a master’s in public health from Johns Hopkins, a master’s in public health nursing focusing on wellness from the University of California, a B.S. in nursing from New York University and undertook post-doctoral study in the Divinity school at Duke University.

Carl entered nursing in 1950 after graduating from high school and in 1954 passed his registered nurse certification and worked as a staff nurse in Rochester, New York, and later as a staff nurse and then a head nurse at Bellevue Hospital in New York City. In 1958 he moved to San Francisco where he worked as a staff nurse at the Veterans Hospital and later as a public health nurse at the Oakland Health Department and the San Francisco Health Department. In 1961 he was offered a scholarship to attend the graduate program in public health nursing at the University of California, San Francisco. The emphasis of this program was on preventing illnesses and promoting health and wellness using a holistic approach with individuals, families, communities and organizations.

He subsequently taught at the UCSF and at Duke University in North Carolina. In 1971 he became a Professor of Nursing at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, where he remained for nearly 30 years, appreciating the opportunity to help develop new programs and teach a wide range of courses to graduates and undergraduates. At ODU, he served in administrative positions, including Chair of the Nursing Program, Coordinator of the Undergraduate Nursing Program, Graduate Program Director, and Director of the externally funded Old Dominion University Nursing Center.

Carl received other national recognition including listings in Who’s Who, Who’s Who in Virginia, Who’s Who in American Nursing, Outstanding Educators in America, Men of Achievement, and 50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading in 2014. He authored twelve books and four book chapters and published or presented more than 100 research papers and articles with presentations in the United States and Europe. His most recent books included: Healthy Holistic Aging: A Blueprint for Success and You Can Beat Lung Cancer: Using Alternative/Integrative Interventions. The latter was an Amazon best seller and led to more than 100 radio and television interviews.

No one wants to hear from their doctor that they have cancer, and only six months to live.
But these are the words that Dr. Carl O. Helvie heard 44 years ago.
While his doctor encouraged him to begin traditional treatment right away, Helvie
knew there had to be another way to treat his cancer without the negative side effects of radiation and chemotherapy, or the invasiveness of surgery. After a lot of praying and a good amount of soul-searching, he opted to look for an alternative way to beat his cancer.

Today, Dr. Helvie is the longest-living lung cancer survivor in the world, and he credits this with his decision to take a holistic approach in his treatment. His treatment proved
so successful, Dr. Helvie used it to develop a simple plan that he shares in his new book,  Reducing Your Cancer Risk: A Holistic Approach (Booklocker Inc.).
It’s not complicated—it’s not rocket science—but it is based on years of proven research. The book explores the environment that brings cancer and the human body together and offers steps to take before these three elements interact to cause the disease.

Listed in “50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading in 2014,” Helvie recommends anyone receiving a cancer diagnosis to take the time to really think about what they want to do for their treatment plan. Adding, “People shouldn’t jump into chemotherapy or surgery if they don’t have all of the information and have a chance to think about it.”
In 2014, Dr. Helvie founded the Carl O. Helvie Holistic Cancer Foundation—a foundation different from other cancer foundations in that they focus on the holistic approach and multiple aspects of education, research and patient care for many types of cancer.  For each area of content in the book there is a review of current research studies, and steps we can take to avoid carcinogens and strengthen the body. Also included are interviews with over 40 national leaders, discussing vastly different areas ranging from GMOs and EMTs to gratitude and forgiveness. There is also a how-to section that covers everything from meditation, gratitude and faith to minor changes in diet, drinking water and reducing stress.

A prolific author, Helvie has written 10 books, more than 55 articles, and has presented
57 research papers throughout the US and Europe. In retirement, he focused his research on natural interventions for health issues, which led him to develop a nursing theory that has helped him establish a nursing center and improve primary care for homeless and low-income families. Since retiring, he has written two more books and served as the host of a holistic health radio show. In 1999, he was presented the Distinguished Career Award in Public Health from the American Public Health Association. He has been interviewed on more than 150 radio and television shows about his two most recent books.

Something to Think About

Today’s guest post is written by Radix Verum, you can follow her on Gab here

On the Miracle of Christ’s Birth.
In Western Christianity, the Christmas season is synonymous with Christmastide, which runs from December 25 (Christmas Day) to January 5 (Twelfth Night or Epiphany Eve), popularly known as the 12 Days of Christmas, or in the Catholic Church, until the Baptism of the Lord, a Christmas season which can last for more or fewer than twelve days.

As Christmas ends, we must take some time to consider the miracle of Christ’s birth, arguably the single most important event in human history. A miracle is an extraordinary phenomenon that the human mind cannot explain.
For example, a person born blind suddenly gains sight without any medical intervention. Without a human explanation, such an event would be a miracle. Nativity celebrates the miraculous incarnation of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God.

Orthodox Christians spend forty days in preparation for this wonderous feast and celebrate it for two whole weeks! “Therefore, the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”
~ Isaiah 7:14

The Biblical Prophet Isaiah foretold this miracle of the coming of the Lord and Savior.
The birth of the Savior was hoped, prayed, and planned for. Jesus Christ, the Logos, the Living Word of God is constantly revealed to us in the Bible. Again and again, the Bible prophesied the coming of the Lord.
The Old Testament was written some 400 years before the New Testament and yet Christ is continually prophesized and unveiled. This time between the Old and New Testament is called the “400 years of silence” during which there were no other prophets. Christ came at exactly the right time to complete his mission.

“Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troubled times.” ~ Daniel 9:25

The Book of Daniel is an especially rewarding read, and we see the foreshadowing of the coming of our Lord. While it may take spiritual discernment and several readings to grasp the fullness of what is being said, once you see it, it cannot be unseen. Chapter Nine of the Book of Daniel predicts the exact day that our Lord and Savior will arrive. Daniel would have had no way of knowing what he was writing about, as the Angel Gabriel spoke to him. God’s planning is meticulous and perfect.
“But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.” ~ Micah 5:2 “Therefore, will he give them up, until the time that she which hath brought forth: then the remnant of his brethren shall return unto the children of Israel.” ~ Micah 5:3

The scriptures contain these subtle, yet beautiful references to the coming of Christ, and His ministry is revealed. How He would live, how He would teach, the heavenly nature of His kingdom.
“Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts.” Malachi 3:1
Malachi presents one of the most beautiful prophecies concerning John the Baptist and the paving of the way for Christ’s ministry. ~Malachi 4:5 tells that this messenger is “Elijah the prophet” which is fulfilled in the New Testament. The Gospel of Mark declares John the Baptist as this messenger. Malachi had predicted a metaphorical Elijah, not a literal one.
Orthodox Christians believe that Jesus Christ was born supernaturally in the Virgin Mary, the Holy Theotokos (Mother of God). Christ was not born of natural and human means; he was conceived inside the Virgin Mary by the power of the Holy Spirit. This is so incredible, and the implications are manifold. This means that Christ, the eternal Son of God came into the world fully human, but also divine. Unlike the rest of humanity since the days of Adam and Eve, Christ was born to a virgin and was born holy, blameless, and sinless.

Thus, the birth of Christ signifies the beginning of a new creation.

In Luke we read: “And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, to a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favored, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. And when she saw him, she was troubled by what he said, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favor with God. And behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.

He shall be great and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob forever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. Then said Mary unto the angel, how shall this be, seeing I know not a man? And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore, also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. And behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren. For with God nothing shall be impossible. And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.” ~Luke 1:26-38

Just imagine for a moment what it would have been like for Mary to be visited by an angel and be told that she would conceive and give birth to the Son of God by the Holy Spirit. Note also that Mary consents to this, she is not ordered to agree nor is she commanded. She makes the choice to be obedient unto God. Remarkably, the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ would be born in Bethlehem, the “city of David,” thus fulfilling Biblical prophecy, specifically ~Micah 5:2.

In Matthew we read:
“But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him
in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto the Mary thy wife:
for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.” ~ Matthew 1:20
Once again, the Holy Spirit is identified as being the means with which Mary becomes pregnant. This also shows a connection between the Holy Spirt and Christ, the mystery
of the Holy Trinity signaled.
In the Gospel of John, we learn more about the divinity of Christ, the Logos, who existed in the beginning before the Incarnation:
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light, which light Eth every man that cometh into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.” ~ John 1:1-10

This is so incredible, that Christ a divine being would choose to incarnate into the world and be born in a manger and take on the flesh and dwell amongst us for our salvation.
This virgin birth of a holy and divine being brought sinless into the world, stands in harsh contrast to Adam. In this is revealed God’s supernatural intervention in the world.
The Nativity is an amazing miracle, it signifies this intervention by God, this meeting between God and humanity.
In Christ Jesus, the heavenly man meets the earthly one and they are united.
In this, we see how God mysteriously goes from divine glory to human suffering and weakness, to truly become one with us. To take away the sins of the world.
As we celebrate the Nativity let us remember the profundity of God coming to man, that man may return to God from his fallen state and be united to Him through Christ forever. St. Gregory of Nyssa, in his Homily on the Nativity, refers to the Nativity as a “re-creation,” a “second communion” of God with mankind.

St. John of Kronstadt writes about the miracle of Christ’s birth in his Sermon on the Nativity of Christ: “The Word became flesh; that is, the Son of God, co-eternal with God the Father and with the
Holy Spirit became human – having become incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary. O, wondrous, awesome and salvific mystery!”
The One Who had no beginning took on a beginning according to humanity; the One without flesh assumed flesh. God became man – without ceasing to be God.
The Unapproachable One became approachable to all, in the aspect of a humble servant. Why, and for what reason, was there such condescension [shown] on the part of the Creator toward His transgressing creatures – toward humanity which,
through an act of its own will had fallen away from God, its Creator?
It was by reason of a supreme, inexpressible mercy toward His creation on the part of
the Master, who could not bear to see the entire race of mankind – which, He, in creating, had endowed with wondrous gifts – enslaved by the devil and thus destined for eternal suffering and torment.

And the Word became flesh! in order to make us earthly beings into heavenly ones,
also, in order to make sinners into saints; in order to raise us up from corruption into incorruption, from earth to heaven; from enslavement to sin and the devil – into the glorious freedom of children of God; from death – into immortality, in order to make us sons of God and to seat us together with Him upon the Throne as His royal children.”
~ St. John of Kronstadt.

God, in His infinite mercy and love for us, came into this world, took on the flesh, and offered Himself up as a sacrifice for our sins. Archimandrite Iachint Unciuleac writes, “This miracle has torn History in Two: Panegyric on the Nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ”:
“Today Christ is Born! And the miracle of His incarnation surpassing the laws of nature have amazed all the earth, renewed the whole world, torn history in two; and flying across twenty centuries, is known to us today. Today the Messiah is born! And these tidings brought by the angels from heaven, first received by the shepherds, have flashed forth like lightning to all the ends of the earth.
These tidings, which frightened Herod and with him all Jerusalem (Mt. 2:3), have sounded like a spiritual trumpet sounded forth from century to century, from region to region, from shore to shore; and today they have reached our hearts. Hearing these tidings the poor rejoice, the sinners are made glad, the blind can see, the sick are comforted, and the lame exalt. Having heard these tidings, the orators were stunned, for they have silenced the learned, put the philosophers to shame, and forbidden kings. At these tidings mothers rejoice, virgins sing, and infant’s dance.
Today Christ is Born! And the command from above that the Angels sang with joy, the shepherds proclaimed, the Virgin and Joseph heard, and the peoples repeated, have gone down through the ages like a hymn of peace made between man and God; and we also hymn it today.

Today the Lord has come to the world! And the star shining forth in the east that told of the miracle and called the three Magi to their path has carried across generations, cities, countless kingdoms, to numberless peoples; and we see it shining today in the vaults of the Church of Christ. Thus, the miracle of the birth of Christ, the good tidings, the singing of Angels, and the shining of the star have gathered us together in church today, brethren,
so that we may rejoice in the Lord and spiritually celebrate.” – Archimandrite Iachint Unciuleac.

This Miracle has Torn History in Two.
This is such a beautiful description regarding the miracle of Christ’s birth, Archimandrite Iachint correct. God has entered into the depths of human life, and has lowered himself, that we might be lifted up all the way to heaven! Only through divine providence could such an event happen. Such is the love God has for mankind!
All the laws of nature were overturned, and the heavens opened and sang, and the
Angels rejoiced. Such humility and mercy, how can one even begin to describe such
a glorious mystery?
This humble incarnation and manifestation would serve to fulfill all the prophecies
of the Old Testament, and in so doing reveal His love for us.

“Thy Nativity, O Christ our God,
Has shone to the world the light of knowledge.
For by it those who worshiped the stars
Were taught by a star
To worship Thee, the Sun of Righteousness,
And to know Thee, the Dayspring from On High,
O Lord, glory to Thee!”

– Troparion of the Nativity of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, This hymn hints at the Glory of the miracle of Christ’s birth. He is at once an infant, a newborn baby in a manger but also the Ancient of Days, human but divine, a son, but also the Father. He is the Word, Wisdom itself as well as a child.
His mother the Holy Theotokion cared for Him and loved Him as God the Father
cares for and loves us. There is a profound mystery there – that should be contemplated.
When Christ Jesus was born, we humans were reborn, we are brought back from the death of sin and given a chance for redemption and unity with God. The dead are themselves resurrected and delivered from the sting of death and mortality.
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son. Surely, this is a great mystery. As Christians, we should be celebrating and remembering what the Lord has done for us. God himself coming down from the highest realm, becoming man, and thus becoming one flesh with us. We are the heirs of this wonderous act, and it is our duty to live our lives by the example Christ set for us.

Since humankind has screwed up this world GOD went out and created A new World in the universe. Flurona

Experts have identified a new but strange omicron Flurona – variant symptom.

strange omicron variant symptom has emerged as COVID-19 has continued to spread across the country. What is ‘flurona’? Coronavirus and influenza co-infections reported
as omicron surges. (msn.com)

Dr. John Torres, NBC News senior medical correspondent, told the “Today” show
that one of the most common COVID-19 symptoms — loss of taste and smell — has not been common among omicron variant patients.
However, “people are reporting night sweats, which is a very strange symptom
that they say they’re having,” Torres told the “Today” show.
Night sweats have become one of the common omicron variant symptoms,
along with muscle aches, fatigue and scratchy throats, as I wrote for the Deseret News.
Torres said you should assume you have COVID-19 if you start to feel sick, regardless
of the symptoms you’re feeling.
“So, if you start getting sick, essentially you have to assume it’s COVID unless proven otherwise,” he said. “And by that I mean make sure you isolate yourself (and) get a test
to make sure it’s not COVID.”

“You notice there’s a lot of overlap in those symptoms, and that’s why it can be so hard
to tell the difference between all of them,” Torres said. “But there are a few differences.”
Dr. Amir Khan, a physician with the U.K.’s National Health Service, told the U.K. newspaper The Sun that night sweats had become a COVID-19 symptom for the omicron variant, too.
Khan said the night sweats are “those kind of drenching night sweats where you might have to get up and change your clothes.”
Dr. Angelique Coetzee, the South African doctor who sounded the alarm on the omicron coronavirus variant, said at the beginning of the omicron variant wave that the symptoms are re often “very, very mild” compared to previous COVID-19 strains, per Al Jazeera.

The Next Big COVID Variant Could Be a Triple Whammy Nightmare.
By David Axe

Even as daily new COVID cases set all-time records and hospitals fill up, epidemiologists have arrived at a perhaps surprising consensus. Yes, the latest Omicron variant of the novel coronavirus is bad. But it could have been a lot worse. Even as cases have surged, deaths haven’t—at least not to the same degree. Omicron is highly transmissible but generally — ““t as severe as some older variants— “lineages” is the scientific term.
We got lucky. But that luck might not hold. Many of the same epidemiologists who have breathed a sigh of relief over Omicron’s relatively low death rate are anticipating that the next lineage might be much worse. Fretting over a possible future lineage that combines Omicron’s extreme transmissibility with the severity of, say, the previous Delta lineage, experts are beginning to embrace a new public health strategy that’s getting an early test run in Israel: a four-shot regimen of messenger-RNA vaccine.
“I think this will be the strategy going forward,” Edwin Michael, an epidemiologist at the Center for Global Health Infectious Disease Research at the University of South Florida, told The Daily Beast. Omicron raised alarms in health agencies all over the world in late November after officials in South Africa reported the first cases. Compared to older lineages, Omicron features around 50 key mutations, some 30 of which are on the spike protein that helps the virus to grab onto our cells. Some of the mutations are associated with a virus’s ability to dodge antibodies and thus partially evade vaccines

Others are associated with higher transmissibility.
The lineage’s genetic makeup pointed to a huge spike in infections in the unvaccinated
as well as an increase in milder “breakthrough” infections in the vaccinated. That’s exactly what happened. Health officials registered more than 10 million new COVID cases the first week of January.
That’s nearly double the previous worst week for new infections, back in May.
Around 3 million of those infections were in the United States, where Omicron coincided with the Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year holidays and associated traveling and family gatherings.
But mercifully, deaths haven’t increased as much as cases have. Worldwide, there were 43,000 COVID deaths the first week of January—fewer than 10,000 of them in the U.S. While deaths tend to lag infections by a couple weeks, Omicron has been dominant long enough that it’s increasingly evident there’s been what statisticians call a “decoupling” of cases and fatalities.
“We can say we dodged a bullet in that Omicron does not appear to cause as serious of a disease,” Stephanie James, head of a COVID testing lab at Regis University in Colorado, told The Daily Beast. She stressed that data is still being gathered, so we can’t be certain yet that the apparent decoupling is real. Assuming the decoupling is happening, experts attribute it to two factors.

First, Omicron tends to infect the throat without necessarily descending to the lungs, where the potential for lasting or fatal damage is much, much higher.
Second, by now, countries have administered nearly 9.3 billion doses of vaccine—enough for a majority of the world’s population to have received at least one dose. In the United States, 73 percent of people have gotten at least one dose. Sixty-two percent have gotten two doses of the best mRNA vaccines. A third have received a booster dose.
Yes, Omicron has some ability to evade antibodies, meaning the vaccines are somewhat less effective against this lineage than they are against Delta and other older lineages. But even when a vaccine doesn’t prevent an infection, it usually greatly reduces its severity. For many vaccinated people who’ve caught Omicron, the resulting COVID infection is mild. “A common cold or some sniffles in a fully vaxxed and boosted healthy individual,”
is how Eric Bortz, a University of Alaska-Anchorage virologist and public health expert, described it to The Daily Beast.

All that is to say, Omicron could have been a lot worse. Viruses evolve to survive.
That can mean greater transmissibility, antibody-evasion or more serious infection. Omicron mutated for the former two. There’s a chance some future Sigma or Upsilon lineage could do all three.
When it comes to viral mutations, “extreme events can occur at a non-negligible rate, or probability, and can lead to large consequences,” Michael said. Imagine a lineage that’s as transmissible as Omicron but also attacks the lungs like Delta tends to do. Now imagine that this hypothetical lineage is even more adept than Omicron at evading the vaccines.
That would be the nightmare lineage. And it’s entirely conceivable it’s in our future.
There are enough vaccine holdouts, such as the roughly 50 million Americans who say they’ll never get jabbed, that the SARS-CoV-2 pathogen should have ample opportunities for mutation. “As long as we have unvaccinated people in this country—and across the globe—there is the potential for new and possibly more concerning viral variants to arise,” Aimee Bernard, a University of Colorado immunologist, told The Daily Beast.

Worse, this ongoing viral evolution is happening against a backdrop of waning immunity. Antibodies, whether vaccine-induced or naturally occurring from past infection, fade over time. It’s not for no reason that health agencies in many countries urge booster doses just three months after initial vaccination. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is an outlier, and recommends people get boosted after five months. A lineage much worse than Omicron could evolve at the same time that antibodies wane in billions of people all over the world.
That’s why many experts believe the COVID vaccines will end up being annual or even semi-annual jabs. You’ll need a fourth jab, a fifth jab, a sixth jab, et cetera, forever.
Israel, a world leader in global health, is already turning that expectation into policy. Citing multiple studies that showed a big boost in antibodies with an additional dose of mRNA and no safety concerns, the country’s health ministry this week began offering a fourth dose to anyone over the age of 60, who tend to be more vulnerable to COVID than younger people.

That should be the standard everywhere, Ali Mokdad, a professor of health metrics sciences at the University of Washington Institute for Health, told The Daily Beast. “Scientifically, they’re right,” he said of the Israeli health officials. If there’s a downside,
it’s that there are still a few poorer countries—in Africa, mostly—where many people still struggle to get access to any vaccine, let alone boosters and fourth doses. If and when other richer countries follow Israel’s lead and begin offering additional jabs, there’s some risk of even greater inequity in global vaccine distribution.
“The downside is for the rest of the world,” Mokdad said. “I’m waiting to get my first dose and you guys are getting a fourth?”
The solution isn’t to deprive people of the doses they need to maintain their protection against future—and potentially more dangerous—lineages. The solution, for vaccine-producing countries, is to further boost production and double down on efforts to push vaccines out to the least privileged communities.
A sense of urgency is key. For all its rapid spread, Omicron has actually gone fairly easy on us. Sigma or Upsilon might not. Dr. Fauci, corporate media, and the Public Health Regime have been lying about Covid since the beginning.

Fauci defends CDC Guidelines, says we’re still in the middle of a pandemic – Bing video
On Thursday, Dr. Fauci joined Adrienne Bankert on NewsNation’s Morning in America for an interview that included questions from viewers. Fauci has a visceral negative reaction in this interview when asked about Covaxin, yet offers no scientific justification for being against it.

His attitude is “Shut up and take the mRNA vaccines!”
On Behalf of a Michigan viewer, Bankert questioned the NIAID director about why
“more traditional” vaccines that are not mRNA based – specifically Covaxin, which has been approved for use by the World Health Organization – have not been approved by the FDA for use in the United States even though multiple clinical trials have proven its safety and effectiveness is supposedly up to par.

“We had so many people ask about Covaxin,” she added.
Fauci shamelessly attempted to deflect and scrambled to build a straw man, claiming that he was “puzzled” because the US is stocked up on vaccines, and it’s not like we need any more because we have them, and people aren’t taking them.
We have enough vaccines, the best vaccines available, in the United States.
I’m puzzled by that question. We have more vaccines than we need right now. We just need the people to get vaccinated with the vaccines that we have. The mRNA vaccines are desired by everyone else in the world.

So, we have what we need; we need to use it.
Bankert followed up Fauci’s pathetic puzzled response by asking if he is “opposed to alternative treatments.” Visibly shocked, at this point by the seemingly benign but unwittingly pointed line of questioning, Fauci just outright says we don’t need another vaccine before claiming Covaxin has not applied for approval anyway,

What do you mean by alternative?
It’s not an alternative. It’s another vaccine. We don’t need another vaccine; we have plenty of vaccines, they have not applied to get approved. When you try to get approved, the FDA looks at the data, and if the data are in order and give you a good scientific rationale to approve it, the FDA will approve it.

There are no interventions that are not being approved for reasons other
than they’ve either not been submitted for approval or the data are not
strong enough to warrant approval.”
Unsurprisingly, Ocugen Inc, the US-based pharmaceutical company that produces Covaxin, DID, in fact, apply for Emergency Use Authorization for their non-mRNA Covid vaccine, and that was all the way back at the beginning of November,
but for some unknown reason, the EUA has not been approved or denied
by the FDA as of yet.

What’s more, the FDA has also forced Ocugen to pause its
phase III Covaxin clinical trial while also citing no reason
In other words, Covaxin’s approval status seems to have nothing to do with their application status – of which Fauci was fully aware when he brazenly misled the public
on national TV, but rather it seems that the FDA is arbitrarily delaying the approval.

Watch: Fauci’s deception went largely unnoticed thanks to Bankert letting him slide in another bootlicking softball interview, but the hacks at NewsNation also played their role in suppressing the truth by issuing a silent “editor’s note” into the official transcript of the interview. They also wrote a lengthy piece about Fauci’s comments that had the correction buried all the way at the bottom of the article.

WATCH: Fauci Caught Lying AGAIN, Claims Non-mRNA Vaccines Like “Covaxin” Have Not Been Approved In the US Because “They Have Not Applied” – Turns Out, They HAVE (thegatewaypundit.com)

How many people saw the ABOVE clip with Fauci’s lie?
Versus how many people saw that teeny-tiny correction?

The latter pales in comparison. That’s the power of Fake News.
But in the end, whether it’s Pfizer’s experimental jab or a non-mRNA-type like Covaxin, natural immunity provides the best protection against Covid-19, in some cases by as much as 13X – and don’t forget, this virus also has over 99% recovery rate anyway.

Plus, the available vaccines do not have the best track record, to put it mildly.
Fauci should stay the hell out of it, Americans have enough ‘data’ to make
up their own minds.

Enough with his lies.

It’s Bad for The Game

FRONTLINE Season 2013 Episode 16 League of Denial: The NFL’s Concussion Crisis

Burfict Hit on Antonio Brown’s Head – Bing video

List of NFL players with chronic traumatic encephalopathy
Wait til all sides of the story come out. Tired of people trying to diagnose who needs “help” when they don’t even know the facts. We know how the media paints pictures of people who move to their own drums. He needs help. He has mental health issues. Not sure if it’s CTE or another neurotransmitter imbalance, but he needs help. A simple google search of his interactions with bosses/women/police…he has significant mental health issues that prevent normal social interaction…I don’t know how he cannot be suffering from CTE.

Him and many other players I’m guessing. Erratic behavior is definitely a symptom. My husband has said for years that he hasn’t been the same since that hit he took from Burfict from the Bengals when he was playing for Steelers ..
He has had literally EVERY opportunity to get help. From back when he was w/the Steelers until now. He has $$$ & more resources than anyone. He CHOOSES not to get help. When will we as a people start holding people accountable for their actions instead of excusing and enabling them?

Maybe he’s just been coddled his whole life and thinks he is above any kind of judgment? He was a jerk in Pgh. A jerk in Oakland. A jerk in NE. And now a jerk in Tampa.  Absolutely possible. I don’t know why anyone would act the way he has always acted. Something is wrong with him. He needs a reset. That reset could be counseling, medication, a combination of both…something.
He leaves a path of destruction wherever he goes. I agree 200% with Garrett. It’s obvious he is suffering from advanced CTE. Those repeated hits and concussions have really affected him. And people don’t understand but with CTE you can’t even help yourself. It’s very sad to watch what is happening to AB. And RIP to your father.

Translation: AB is referring here to “Super Gremlin”, a song by fellow South Florida native Kodak Black. The song focuses on lost bonds and betrayal, which AB likely feels with Tampa Bay after walking out on them shirtless in the middle of a game.

image.png
They need to find a way to diagnose CTE before the athlete is dead.

I guarantee that over half of the players are already suffering from it with all of the continuous hits to the head. Do you actually believe Arians doesn’t know what made AB so angry? Unless Brown truly has CTE and is behaving completely irrationally that story makes no sense. Why would a coach or an organization not want to know the cause for this behavior? I want to know. I don’t know if he knows, but based on past erratic behavior, it’s not a stretch to think that Arians could be just as confused as the rest of us. You’re acting like AB has never done anything that would be considered “strange”. Second, maybe he feels it isn’t his place to say.

Give me an example of a reason for AB refusing to play (and likely earn a large bonus in the process) that Arians wouldn’t feel right sharing with the public. If an employer is confused about an employee’s actions should they ask them for an explanation before firing them?  What are you talking about? His employer asked him to do his job and he refused. That’s grounds for termination with almost any job. I’m talking about the REASON he refused to do his job. That reason might be grounds for a lawsuit with almost any job if it involves preventing the employee from earning money that has been defined in a contract.

TOTAL HORSESHIT! I live in Tampa. ARIANS told him 2x to go into the play…he refused. Arians said “get out”. Had he stayed & acted like a teammate, he VERY well could have made 2 of his remaining 333k/ea incentives. Only 55 yds, and 1 td, would have gotten him 666k 2day.  Why are people willing to spread this story with no explanation for why AB refused to go in the game? A guy who loves to play football passes up a chance to earn huge bonuses for playing and few people care to ask what caused this to happen. I don’t get it. Is it just hate?

If AB is a role model This world is in trouble. Man facepalming
Are you serious? He wasn’t benched at all, when he wouldn’t go into the game when Coach told him to, twice- he was then told to “get out”. He wasn’t benched and he wasn’t standing up, he was sitting down on his team. He has certainly been a great player, but I don’t agree that he’s a great role model. I hope he grows up and takes responsibility for all his actions and finds peace. That would be role model worthy!

Showing your son that someone isn’t a team player? (What is it, his 4th? 5th team?) And the display he put on in the middle of the game walking out…are you serious? It’s all about Antonio. Maybe that’s why no one wants him anymore.  Aren’t there better role models than AB? I guess teaching your son that quitting because you don’t get your own way is ok. Everybody’s wrong and I’m right attitude won’t get him far in life. So, you want to see your son be ungracious in defeat and quit when the going gets tough? I’d hope for higher ideals personally.

“Son there is a valuable lesson in all this. If you are unhappy with your playing time or role, just fucking quit. But do it in spectacular fashion” He was told to go in and play, and AB refused. BA tells him to leave, and AB throws his stuff off. Terrible role model for your son. Your son deserves better. Anybody applauding this crap has never played team sports. Dude tried to let his team down. He won’t be missed. He never got benched, he was even asked to go in twice and he refused! AB got some issues, and now he’ll never play in the NFL again.

When do people realize it isn’t everyone else, it’s AB that’s the problem. How many teams does he have to get thrown out of before people see?

So you’re teaching your son how to be a bitch when things don’t go his way instead of working harder? I’ll visit your son in prison when you don’t.  What Brown did today was pathetic. And yet here come lots of people supporting him.

I guess there’s no expiration date for him on boorish behavior. Just unreal…Face with rolling eyes

You are completely incorrect here. First of all, Brown refused to enter the game.
Second, I suggest that as a parent, you would want your child to not look up
to a man that has been nothing but a prima donna/spoiled brat his entire career.

You seriously need to expand your son’s circle of influence!
Please find another role model for your son so he doesn’t grow up to be really selfish, inconsiderate, dishonest and all-around obnoxious.  Your son better get to a shrink as quick as AB if that is the type of person he looks up to.

Guess you’re ok with assaulting women. Man facepalming

“It’s Wrong for benching you”?
Bet you’re raising a quitter too. There’s no excuse for walking off after the coach, the Head Coach, makes a game decision you disagree with. He’s supposed to comply because it’s about the team, not individual.

You’re happy your son sees @AB84 as a role model?
He lies to his team and the league which cost him a lot of money. $1Mil in bonuses is easy if he had not lied.
He has walked out on multiple teams who have given him a shot. Paid thousands to settle out of court.
You’re crazy.  Hey Genius -> AB wasn’t benched… he didn’t go back out on the field to join a play when we were told to. AB=Poor Sportsman & BAD Role Model. Tell your kid to find a better role model unless you want him to learn all of AB bad behaviors (forgery, disrespecting his team, etc.) #Fool

Become a boss and tell that to your employee who tells you their ankle is hurt. Force them to work and watch them wreck their ankles and enjoy the lawsuit. AB did jumping jacks on his way off the field. Obviously he didn’t care that his ankle hurt after he got cut…or…he didn’t feel enough pain to prevent him from doing that.

You’re not AB, I’m not AB, AB’s AB.

He had been averaging 8.5 targets a game until the jets game. He had 5 targets, more than Mike Evans, at the point he walked out mid game.  What a shitty role model for your son to choose.

He’s a quitter, troublemaker, undisciplined lil’ overrated crybaby.
Your son is gonna suck at life. He was on pace to do what he usually does.

Overview
By Mayo Clinic Staff

Chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE. is the term used to describe brain degeneration likely caused by repeated head traumas. CTE is a diagnosis made only at autopsy by studying sections of the brain.
CTE is a rare disorder that is not yet well understood. CTE is not related to the immediate consequences of a late-life episode of head trauma. CTE has a complex relationship with head traumas such as persistent post-concussive symptoms and second impact syndrome that occur earlier in life.

Experts are still trying to understand how repeated head traumas — including how many head injuries and the severity of those injuries — and other factors might contribute to the changes in the brain that result in CTE.
CTE has been found in the brains of people who played football and other contact sports, including boxing. It may also occur in military personnel who were exposed to explosive blasts. Some signs and symptoms of CTE are thought to include difficulties with thinking (cognition) and emotions, physical problems and other behaviors. It’s thought that these develop years to decades after head trauma occurs.

CTE cannot be made as a diagnosis during life except in those rare individuals with high-risk exposures.
Researchers do not yet know the frequency of CTE in the population and do not understand the causes. There is no cure for CTE. Researchers are currently developing diagnostic biomarkers for CTE, but none has been validated yet.

Symptoms
There are no specific symptoms that have been clearly linked to CTE.
Some of the possible signs and symptoms of CTE can occur in many other conditions. In the few people with proven CTE, signs and symptoms have included cognitive, behavioral, mood and motor changes.

Cognitive impairment
Difficulty thinking (cognitive impairment)
Memory loss
Problems with planning, organization and carrying out tasks (executive function)
Behavioral changes
Impulsive behavior
Aggression
Mood disorders
Depression or apathy
Emotional instability
Substance misuse
Suicidal thoughts or behavior
Motor symptoms
Parkinsonism
Motor neuron disease

CTE symptoms don’t develop right after a head injury, but experts believe that they might develop over years or decades after repeated head trauma. Experts currently believe that CTE symptoms appear in two forms. In early life between the late 20s and early 30s, the first form of CTE may cause mental health and behavioral issues including depression, anxiety, impulsivity and aggression. The second form of CTE is thought to cause symptoms later in life, around age 60. These signs and symptoms include memory and thinking problems that are likely to progress to dementia.
The full list of signs to look for in people with CTE at autopsy is still unknown. It is unclear what kind of symptoms, if any, CTE may cause during life. Little is known right now about how CTE progresses.

When to see a doctor.
CTE is thought to develop over many years after repeated brain injuries that may be mild or severe. However, see your doctor in case of the following:
Suicidal thoughts. Research shows that people with CTE may be at increased risk of suicide. If you have thoughts of hurting yourself, call 911, your local emergency number or the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-TALK (800-273-8255).
Head injury. See your doctor if you’ve had a head injury, even if you didn’t need emergency care. If your child has received a head injury that concerns you, call your child’s doctor immediately. Depending on the signs and symptoms, your doctor may recommend seeking immediate medical care.
Memory problems. See your doctor if you have concerns about your memory or other thinking (cognitive) or behavior problems.
Personality or mood changes. See your doctor if depression, anxiety, aggression or impulsivity occur.
Causes
A sudden jolt moves the brain inside the head.

Concussion
Repetitive head trauma is likely the cause of CTE. Football and ice hockey players, as well as military personnel serving in war zones, have been the focus of most CTE studies, though other sports and factors such as physical abuse also can lead to repetitive head injuries.
However, not all athletes and not everyone who experiences repeated concussions, including military personnel, go on to develop CTE. Some studies have shown no increased incidence of CTE in people exposed to repeated head injuries.
In brains with CTE, researchers have found that there is a buildup of a protein called tau around the blood vessels. Tau buildup in CTE is different from accumulations of tau found in Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. CTE is thought to cause areas of the brain to waste away (atrophy). Injuries to the sections of nerve cells that conduct electrical impulses affect communication between cells.
It’s possible that people with CTE may show signs of another neurodegenerative disease, including Alzheimer’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) — also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease — Parkinson’s disease or frontotemporal lobar degeneration (frontotemporal dementia).

Risk factors
Repeated exposure to traumatic brain injury is thought to increase the risk of CTE, but experts are still learning about the risk factors.

Prevention
There is no treatment for CTE. But CTE may be prevented because it is associated with recurrent concussions. Individuals who have had one concussion are more likely to have another head injury. The current recommendation to prevent CTE is to reduce mild traumatic brain injuries and prevent additional injury after a concussion.

Shattered Dreams

As US shatters COVID case records, experts predict outlook for coming months
Yesterday 8:05 PM

Amid a record-breaking surge, the U.S. is now averaging more COVID-19 cases per day than at any other point in the pandemic, according to new data updated on Wednesday from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  Federal data shows the nation is now reporting an average of more than 277,000 new cases a day, shattering the previous record of 250,000 cases per day from last January.

“These numbers are absolutely staggering, especially considering we are two years into the pandemic,” said John Brownstein, Ph.D., an epidemiologist at Boston Children’s Hospital and an ABC News contributor.
The record average comes after the U.S. reported two consecutive days of more than 430,000 new cases, following soaring demand for tests and a backlog of holiday reporting data.
MORE: Breakthrough COVID-19 infections and deaths rose during delta, but far outpaced by the unvaccinated
Over the last month, the U.S. daily case average has tripled, and the nation has reported more than 1.9 million new cases in the last week alone — an average of about three Americans testing positive for COVID-19 every second.
“The combination of the most transmissible variant to date alongside holiday travel and gatherings is a recipe for record-breaking case counts,” Brownstein said, referring to the omicron variant. “These numbers are likely to be a significant undercount given the shortages in testing and the absence of home test results in official counts.”

Although the significantly high case total is due, in large part, to the country’s latest surge, a number of factors, including data backlogs from the holiday weekend, and a surge in testing demand, may artificially increase the totals.
In addition, more than 30 states are not reporting consistently over the holiday stretch, which can also significantly skew data.

However, on Tuesday, CDC Director Rochelle Walensky told NPR in an interview that given the shortage in COVID-19 tests right now, ultimately, the official number of positive cases is likely undercounted.
The nation’s latest surge is widespread, with every state in the country currently experiencing high community transmission. In June, no states were reporting high community transmission.

On Monday, Dr. Anthony Fauci told ABC News’ Whit Johnson that it is difficult to know exactly when the country’s latest surge will peak, given the fact that so many Americans remain unvaccinated.
“It’s going to get worse before it gets better — that’s for sure. We don’t expect things to turn around in a few days to a week. It likely will take much longer than that, but that’s unpredictable,” Fauci said.
At this time, 89 million Americans remain completely unvaccinated, and less than a third of fully vaccinated people have been boosted.

17,390 new COVID cases reported, 74.1% of residents vaccinated Jan. 3, 2022

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WTAJ) — The Pennsylvania Department of Health reports 17.1 million vaccine doses have been administered in Pennsylvania. 74.1% of Pennsylvanians age 18 and older are fully vaccinated.
17,390 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported since Sunday, bringing the state total to 2,094,614 known cases since the start of the pandemic, according to the COVID Alert PA app.
84 new deaths were identified by the Pennsylvania death registry, bringing the total to 36,799 deaths attributed to COVID-19. 5 new deaths were identified in our central region. CDC recommends shorter COVID isolation, quarantine for all
There are 5,629 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19. Of that number, 1,004 patients are in the intensive care unit with COVID-19. More data is available here.
Our central region shows 443 new cases since Sunday, bringing our total to 135,097 known COVID-19 cases.
In school-age children (5-18 years old) a total of 345 COVID-19 cases were reported in our central region for the week of Dec. 15-21.

Vaccine highlights
Statewide data representing the 66 counties within the Department of Health’s vaccine jurisdiction:Pennsylvania’s vaccine dashboard was updated to more accurately reflect the number of people who are partially and fully vaccinated and account for the additional doses administered to residents in each county outside of Philadelphia. Demographic data associated with the vaccinations was also updated. The updates are part of the Department of Health’s continuous work to improve the quality of data and statistical reporting to ensure the public has the most accurate and up-to-date information. For state-to-state comparisons, refer to the CDC vaccine data tracker.Vaccine providers have administered 17,095,211 total vaccine doses, including 2,410,659 additional doses (which includes additional shots for immunocompromised individuals and booster shots).

6,937,824 people are fully vaccinated.
The Department of Health continues to urge Pennsylvanians to follow CDC guidance for wearing a mask where required by law, rule and regulations, including healthcare, local business and workplace guidance. For the protection of themselves and others, individuals who have not yet been vaccinated or are partially vaccinated are still encouraged to wear a mask when in public. CDC also recommends all individuals wear a mask indoors in public if you are in an area of substantial or high transmission.

Hospitalizations are also on the rise, according to federal data, albeit about two-thirds
the levels experienced last winter. Across the country, more than 84,000 Americans are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 — up by 40,000 patients in the last seven weeks. On average, more than 9,400 Americans are being admitted to the hospital with COVID-19 every day, up by nearly 20% in the last week.

With increased demand in testing and a renewed strain on the hospital system, the federal government has deployed surge teams to help to support the national COVID-19 response, from vaccinations, to testing, to clinical care.
More than 13,000 National Guard members have been activated in 48 states to support the nation’s COVID-19 response, including vaccinations, testing and clinical care.

There are 6,058,444 individuals who have tested negative to date.

Cost of highly coveted at-home tests jumps at major outlets.
Until the federal government makes free at-home tests for COVID-19 available at some point this month, the kits will be pricier than before at some of the nation’s most popular outlets, if they can be found at all.
Walmart, Kroger and Amazon had deals with the Biden administration to sell the coveted tests at cost, but the agreements have expired, so the prices have been adjusted up.
The two-test Abbott BinaxNOW kits at Walmart went from $14 through the holidays to $19.88 on Tuesday. The price at Kroger jumped to $23.99. For many people that may still be a worthwhile expense, considering some outlets are limiting the number of kits that can be purchased amid heavy demand. — Kelly Tyko

Israeli trial shows big protection boost from fourth vaccine dose.
While many Americans are lining up for a third COVID vaccine shot, Israelis may soon be moving on to a fourth.
Such a dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine produces a fivefold increase in antibodies, according to a trial conducted on Israeli medical workers whose protection had waned, The Wall Street Journal reported.
Israel, which has been at the forefront of COVID vaccinations, on Monday became the first country to offer fourth doses to certain groups. Health officials said research shows protection from a third shot starts to diminish after three or four months, and they want the nation to be prepared for the expected omicron wave.

Hospitalizations a truer measure of omicron impact, some experts say.
The astonishing rise in COVID-19 infections prompted by the omicron variant — with a daily average of 480,000 — might not be quite as meaningful as with previous strains of the coronavirus. Because omicron is believed to cause less-severe disease than the delta variant, a more accurate measure of its impact might be hospitalizations, some experts believe.
Presidential medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci is among them, telling ABC on Sunday that because many of the omicron infections produce few if any symptoms, “it is much more relevant to focus on the hospitalizations as opposed to the total number of cases.”
Hospital admissions averaged 14,800 per day last week, up 63% from the week before but short of the peak of 16,500 per day a year ago, when the vast majority of the U.S. was unvaccinated.
It should be noted that a large number of infections, even if asymptomatic, can have an enormous economic and societal effect because of the need for those who contract the virus to isolate themselves and the high risk they could transmit it to others if they don’t.

Teacher vote today could shut down Chicago schools tomorrow.
Chicago teachers were expected to vote Tuesday on whether they want to switch to remote learning because of the surge in COVID-19 cases, according to a teacher’s union spokesperson. The school district has ordered teachers back to their classrooms. Schools CEO Pedro Martinez said classes, in-person and remote, will be canceled for 330,000 students at least for Wednesday if teachers vote for remote learning. He said students are safer in schools, and noted that restaurants and other public places remain open.
“The commitment I have to families is that I have to have a plan that prioritizes them, their children,” Martinez said.
Chicago has reported record numbers of new cases in recent days, and hospitalizations are up 22% from the week prior, according to city data.

Maryland declares state of emergency; hospitalizations hit record.
Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan declared a 30-day state of emergency Tuesday and mobilized 1,000 members of the National Guard to assist state and local health officials with the pandemic response. Maryland reached a record high 3,057 hospitalizations, up more than 500% in less than two months. The newest projections show that COVID-19 hospitalizations could reach more than 5,000 – more than double the previous peak, Hogan said.
“The truth is that the next four to six weeks will be the most challenging of the entire pandemic,” he said.
CDC: Get the Pfizer booster 5 months after the second jab.
The CDC on Tuesday updated its recommendation for when many people can receive a booster shot, shortening the interval from six months to five months after the second shot for people who received the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. The booster interval recommendation for people who received the J&J vaccine (two months) or the Moderna vaccine (six months), has not changed.
The CDC also is now recommending that moderately or severely immunocompromised
5- to 11-year-olds receive an additional primary dose of the vaccine 28 days after their second shot. Only the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine is authorized for children 5-11. The recommendations follow similar decisions announced Monday by the Food and Drug Administration.
“Today’s recommendations allow for more people to get a boost of protection as we face #Omicron & ensure that vulnerable children can get an additional dose for protection against #COVID19,” CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky Tweeted.

Judge backs Navy sailors who challenged military vaccine mandate.
A federal judge in Texas has issued a preliminary injunction banning the Pentagon from punishing 35 Navy Seals and sailors who refused to get vaccinated saying it violated their religious freedoms. The Pentagon has mandated vaccination for all active-duty troops. Thousands of military members have requested religious exemptions, but none have been granted. Judge Reed O’Connor, appointed by President George W. Bush, wrote that the loss of religious liberties “outweighs any forthcoming harm” to the military.
“Our nation asks the men and women in our military to serve, suffer, and sacrifice,” O’Connor wrote. “But we do not ask them to lay aside their citizenry and give up the very rights they have sworn to protect.”
Hospitalizations fueled by omicron variant surge rising sharply.
The United States again has more than 100,000 COVID-19 patients in hospital beds, a USA TODAY analysis of federal data shows. Hospitals on Monday reported 102,486 patients in hospital beds, up about 26% from a week earlier. About as many people are in hospital beds now as when the delta variant peaked in mostly southern states in September. The federal database shows about 142,000 COVID-19 patients were in hospital beds in January 2021.
Hospitals also said in the latest week they had admitted about 152,000 COVID-19 patients, up 46.5% from the previous week. About 19,000 COIVD-19 patients are in intensive-care beds, up 8.6% from the previous week.
Experts say the omicron variant sweeping the nation might be milder than earlier versions of the coronavirus, so a lower percentage of infected people could require hospitalization. But hospital beds are filling up because so many more people are getting infected than ever before.

Vaccination is key. (NOT SURE I BELIEVE THAT).
The hospitalization rate for adults 18 years and older from September through November was about nine times higher in unvaccinated people than those who were vaccinated, the CDC reported.  –  Mike Stucka

COVID-19 cases, test shortages are closing schools across the country.
A majority of schools opened in-person Monday for their spring semester start, but a growing number have shifted abruptly to remote learning again amid the omicron-fueled surge in COVID-19 infections and subsequent staffing shortages.
Public and scientific sentiment is on the side of in-person learning, and parent groups nationwide called Monday for schools to stay open. But districts in and around Detroit, Atlanta, Newark, New Jersey and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as well as individual schools elsewhere, nonetheless reverted to virtual learning for days or weeks, mostly because of staff shortages due to illness or quarantine.
Some districts that aimed to increase rapid testing for COVID-19 as a layered mitigation tactic are also struggling to secure the necessary supplies.

“There definitely is a problem right now with testing supplies, and that certainly does impact mitigation,” Linda Mendonca, president of the National Association of School Nurses, said Monday. – Erin Richards, USA TODAY

First “Flurona” case in Israel.
Meanwhile, in Israel, a 31-year-old pregnant woman has contracted corona and the seasonal flu virus at the same time. It is the world’s first registered “Flurona” case, a neologism composed of flu and corona. The pregnant woman has been revaccinated
and is only mildly ill, according to the Israeli Ministry of Health.
Because Israel has seen a sharp increase in flu infections in recent weeks, the Health Ministry is investigating the case to see if “Flurona” is causing more severe illness.
Israel has seen a particularly dramatic increase in severe flu cases this winter.
According to the Times of Israel, nearly 2,000 people had to be hospitalized with
influenza by the end of 2021. Health authorities fear that with such a strong flu wave,
there could be many more cases of double infections coming.
