You hadn’t read it in context.
The context doesn’t change the meaning, but the longer passage is interesting and the
line that precedes it, which is in the meme, is more direct. It comes from Boswell’s famous Life of Samuel Johnson. I read and forgot most of it loooong ago. The line was used in the context of Johnson’s irritation with David Hume and other enlightenment religious skeptics. Boswell writes:
“Next morning I found him alone, and have preserved the following fragments of his conversation. Of a gentleman who was mentioned, he said, ‘I have not met with any man for a long time who has given me such general displeasure. He is totally unfixed in his principles, and wants to puzzle other people.’ I said his principles had been poisoned by a noted infidel writer [David Hume], but that he was nevertheless a benevolent good man.”
He then quotes Johnson. I’ll skip the beginning.
“Hume, and other skeptical innovators, are vain men, and will gratify themselves at
any expense. Truth will not afford sufficient food to their vanity; so, they have betaketh themselves to error. Truth, Sir, is a cow which will yield such people no more milk, and
so they are gone to milk the bull.”
But the rest is worth reading too:
“‘If I could have allowed myself to gratify my vanity at the expense of truth, what fame might I have acquired. Every thing which Hume has advanced against Christianity had passed through my mind long before he wrote. Always remember this, that after a system is well settled upon positive evidence, a few partial objections ought not to shake it.
The human mind is so limited, that it cannot take in all the parts of a subject, so that
there may be objections raised against anything. There are objections against a plenum,
and objections against a vacuum; yet one of them must certainly be true.’”

To be clear, Hume and every other enlightenment philosopher would have advised that Bhavik Kumar, MD, be stripped of his credentials and maybe even placed in an insane asylum.
I rather think Johnson’s line is the best characterization of the Left today. Of course, it applied to earlier Marxists too. Indeed, it was the Marxists who turned the enlightenment inside out. And it’s not just Marxists now. I struggle with simple arithmetic, but I feel like so many physicists have also gone to milk the bull, especially in their pursuit of string theory. It’s like they expected to disprove God and, having failed, have, again, gone to milk the bull. Real scientists stay with the cow. They know the difference between a cow and a bull and that you can’t get any milk from the bull. Only piss.

What is The Apostasy of the Church?
The Bible indicates that there will be a great apostasy during the end times.
The “great apostasy” is mentioned in 2 Thessalonians 2:3. The KJV calls it the

The Christians in Thessalonica were afraid that Jesus had already come, they had missed the rapture, and they were now in the tribulation. Paul had already explained the rapture to them in his first letter (1 Thessalonians 4:16–17).

It is the relation of a proper Hermeneutic here to go back and do both Thessalonian epistles together.
