Don’t be overwhelmed by how much you think you have to do. You are already doing so much and have done many great things. Breathe for a moment and acknowledge yourself.
Look at all that you’ve accomplished and how far you’ve come.
Take it easy on yourself. Everything is all good.
Sometimes when you beat yourself up too much, you end up not being as productive as you should be. Learn to take a rest, give yourself a pat on your shoulders because every small step is already a success. You will be okay in the end if you don’t burn out during
the journey.
I used to get overwhelmed with a lot of thoughts in the past.
When you’re in a downward spiral everything seems awful. It’s easy to get irrational & dismiss positive news. →Gratitude will stop the spiral. What are you most thankful for? →Write it down →Say it out loud →
Tell others about it from the darkness → light is created.
But it’s become easier when I look at how far I’ve come.
And I feel a lot better after doing that.
Starting something can be overwhelming at times
You’ll see other people’s results and think you’re not doing enough.
Breathe, breathe…you’ve done great, be consistent in doing it right.

If you’re watching Ken Burns’ latest documentary on The US and the Holocaust and you’re not floored by the ripples of history that are crashing into our present day, you might be part of the problem. We’ve been here before. Documentarian Ken Burns, who was born in multicultural Brooklyn, has chosen to live in 96% White Walpole, MA for the last 40+ yrs.
The same is true for Western Europe…I BEG you to watch this Ken Burn’s Documentary. This clearly explains just how much the 30s in Germany is like the US right now.

Stream the entire show, all 3 eps. Could not agree more. Should be watched by all Americans. Unfortunately, those who need to watch it most surely will not. I’ve not watched it yet but as a keen student of history I already agree with you. I was speaking about this subject last night with a follower & it was he who told me about the series. We both have no doubt Ken Burns has done a superb job of telling a difficult but vital truth.
I watched it last night. Really upsetting to see how many of the early signs of fascism in Nazi Germany are already present in today’s political culture – in many countries. And to find out that Hitler thrived in part because opportunistic politicians thought they could use him. I learned that Hitler admired the way Natives were methodically exterminated and pushed into reservations and used this as a model for his expansionist plans.
Good reminder by Ken Burns how German lawyers carefully studied American
racial restrictions in formulating the vicious Nuremberg Laws.

Hitler’s American Model
Nazism triumphed in Germany during the high era of Jim Crow laws in the United States. Did the American regime of racial oppression in any way inspire the Nazis? The unsettling answer is yes. In Hitler’s American Model, James Whitman presents a detailed investigation of the American impact on the notorious Nuremberg Laws, the centerpiece anti-Jewish legislation of the Nazi regime. Contrary to those who have insisted that there was no meaningful connection between American and German racial repression, Whitman demonstrates that the Nazis took a real, sustained, significant, and revealing interest in American race policies.
As Whitman shows, the Nuremberg Laws were crafted in an atmosphere of considerable attention to the precedents American race laws had to offer. German praise for American practices, already found in Hitler’s Mein Kampf, was continuous throughout the early 1930s, and the most radical Nazi lawyers were eager advocates of the use of American models. But while Jim Crow segregation was one aspect of American law that appealed to Nazi radicals, it was not the most consequential one.
Rather, both American citizenship and anti-miscegenation laws proved directly relevant to the two principal Nuremberg Laws–the Citizenship Law and the Blood Law. Whitman looks at the ultimate, ugly irony that when Nazis rejected American practices, it was sometimes not because they found them too enlightened, but too harsh. Indelibly linking American race laws to the shaping of Nazi policies in Germany, Hitler’s American Model upends understandings of America’s influence on racist practices in the wider world.

The parallels to 1930s Germany are striking. Everyone should check out this book, it is just as relevant now as it was back in the 30s before W.W.ll.
READ THIS BOOK
I’d spent a 1 and a half years studing the Nazi rise to power, not through the famous names but letters, postcards, photos. Nazis were supposed to be monsters, not ordinary men and women who think they are doing what’s right to save their country. Don’t know how many letters I read from kids who just wanted to come home but we’re fighting for mom, home and apple streusel while admitting to war crimes that bothered them. It made it all to clear it wasn’t a German peculiarity but a human vulnerability.
I have often wondered what everyday life was like in Germany during this time. We get highlight reels of major events that give us the impression that there was this incessant political drama leading up to the dictatorship but you make it seem all so “day in, day out.” I’m interested to know something. Were most Germans turned out to what was occurring like most Americans have been in recent history?
Also, have you written anything on this, or know of writings on this?
I would love to read it. And for the most part — no, they weren’t tuned out to what was happening (at least politically), as Hitler started churning out new laws (mostly in the form of bans and restrictions) that openly chipped away at the rights of German Jews for ALL Germans to see. The famous poem by Martin Niemöller about ‘They came for…but I wasn’t …’ was not some lefty piece. By his own description Niemöller was an antisemitic Christian nationalist. He was a supporter of Hitler until it was decided that Protestant churches should be combined and brought under one Nazi approved hierarchy.
His dissent had him sent to a concentration camp where he narrowly escaped execution.
One of the hardest things for humans to recognize are what in nonlinear systems is referred to as bifurcation points. It’s where the rules of a system suddenly change so much that none of your experience in a previous state means a damned thing. We are so used to ‘business as usual’ that we are incapable of recognizing truly unusual (and dangerous) business until too late.
I think you’d love the book Mistakes Were Made (But Not by Me): Why We Justify Foolish Beliefs, Bad Decisions, and Hurtful Acts by Carol Tavris | Goodreads — it touches on exactly what you’re talking about. Imo the only way to guard against becoming part of something awful is to consistently question things, including your own beliefs.

Another interesting fact is that although Mexico became a refuge for German Jews during the Holocaust, It was already a refuge for Sephardic Jews from the Ottoman Empire after WWI and the start of the Greco Turkish Wars after WWI…Before WWI, the Ottoman city of Salonica (today, Thessaloniki) had the second largest Jewish population in the world after NYC. Many reasons but the most important was that the Sephardic Lingua Franca, Latino, was so similar to modern Spanish as to be almost indistinguishable…Hundreds of thousands of Sephardic Jews made their way to Mexico, and later many ended up in California, because of its large, Spanish speaking population.
After Greece took over parts of what was Ottoman Greece, all of its Jewish history vanished…There was a mile long street occupied by nothing but Jewish book sellers…
The Ottomans invited Jews into their empire in 1495, after the expulsion from Spain…
they remained in Ottoman Greece for 400 years and then left almost on the heels of
Greek occupation of the region…
There’s an interesting book about one family of Sephardic Jews living in Salonica before WWI…their is one elderly aunt who was a young woman when Napoleon returned to France in the early 19th Century…apparently, as the author reports, the Jews and Muslims got on very well…An elderly Muslim was the family Steward who ran all of the family’s farming interests in the rural areas outside of Salonica. It’s already happening here,
but it’s not being addressed by politicians, why?

I used to volunteer to amuse residents at a nursing home my grandmother stayed at
when I was young. I met someone who was reunited with her brother after slavery was abolished.
It was abolished right before her birth, but it took her parents forever to find her brother. Met people who went through everything. Learned from them and questioned why we weren’t being taught this in History. Spent a lot of time having to explain I wasn’t being a disruption, just wanted a real education. I got transferred to a school not afraid to teach the truth. Stop sanitizing history so we can learn and stop repeating.

But what Trump is doing with his rallies compares to Hitler and the rise of fascism and the Nazis. This could well turn-out as horrible as the Holocaust and must be confronted and stopped. 6 MAGA GOP candidates have said they will not accept the results of the election if they lose (Ted Budd, Blake Masters, Kelly Tshibaka, JD Vance, Tudor Dixon and Geoff Diehl) and 4 MAGA GOP candidates refused to say whether they will accept the results (Doug Mastriano, Kari Lake/Tim Michels and Dan Cox). They know and polls appear to confirm that they are going to lose. They do not support and won’t honor the principles of democracy. In the election they must be trounced so badly that virtually no one will believe their denial of the election.
