Breast Fibroadenoma

Because needle biopsy is often a reliable diagnostic investigation,  some doctors may decide to surgical remove the lesion. While opting instead  for clinical follow – up to serially observation.  With a growth rate of  less than 16%  per month in women under  fifty years of  age, and growth rate of  less than  13% per month  in  women  over  fifty years of  age being considered a safe growth.

Europe recently recognized an alternative treatment called, Echotherapy that  uses high intensity  focused ultra sound  to treat Breast Fibroadenoma. This method which is non-invasive  and relies upon tissue heating to destroy Fibroadenoma cells. A French Company, Theraction develop an echotherapy device  for benign tumor treatment especially Breast Fibroadenoma.

The F.D.A.  has approved Cryoblation  (the use of  extreme cold to destroy tissue) of  Fibroadenoma as a safe,  effective and minimally invasive to open surgical removal in 2001. In this procedure, ultrasound imagining is used to guide a probe into the mass of the breast tissue.  Extremely cold temperature is used to destroy the abnormal cells and overtime these cells are reabsorbed into the body.

This procedure can be performed in an office setting with local anesthesia and leaves substantially less scarring than open surgical procedures and no breast tissue deformation.
