“Fear can hold you prisoner. Hope can set you free.”
Framed in the 1940s for the double murder of his wife and her lover, upstanding banker Andy Dufresne begins a new life at the Shawshank prison, where he puts his accounting skills to work for an amoral warden. During his long stretch in prison, Dufresne comes to be admired by the other inmates — including an older prisoner named Red — for his integrity and unquenchable sense of hope.
I had never been so engrossed in a movie my whole life. Do you know those moments in your life when something special is happening and your mind is 100% in the moment? That’s what it was like for me. Like the moment that you are rounding the bases after a home run. You’re not thinking about anything else. I was hooked and took the ride.
What’s good about this movie?
Well hope is certainly the biggest message of the movie, but there’s more.
Think of all the greatest humans *Virtues:* They’re all in the movie.
Friendship: Andy and Red had the best bromance you could possibly ask for.
Tenacity: “Andy Dufresne, who crawled through a river of s— and came out clean on the other side.”
Purpose: “Prison time is a slow time, so you do what you can to keep going. Some fellas collect stamps, others build matchstick houses.
Andy built a library. Now he needed a new project. Tommy was it.”
Direction/Decisiveness: “Get busy living or get busy dying.”
Salvation: Andy is saved in every way possible. And by doing so, saves others around him also, most of all Red.
Wits: When physically resisting a gang rape doesn’t work, Andy goes for psychology: “Sudden serious brain damage causes the victim to bite down hard.”
Influence/Wits: Andy provides financial advice for the captain of the guards while simultaneously getting free beer for his prison mates, thereby creating harmony on both sides.
Sincerity: Andy is not a fake, about anything.
Forgiveness: Though never stated, it’s obvious that Red and Andy struggle with forgiving themselves for what they’ve done.
I’m sure there are other examples.
Watch without pausing if possible. Turn off your phone. Take it all in.
If you haven’t seen the movie, watch it in the dark with no distractions.
The Shawshank Redemption is a very good movie that is highly rated on many popular movie rating websites.
What I learned from the movie:
1. Plan everything, be good at planning everything so you can escape a bad and secured castle prison easier.
2. Use tricks, be extremely smart, get power in the prison by your super smart brain and powerful mind to gain the trust of the boss, the police guards that have weapons, and the prisoners that might be innocent in the prison.
3. Do not be found by anyone until you escape, make sure you are safe and secure and no one can find you.
4. Do not ever give up, so you do become a good and more powerful guy, then you can live the rest of your life peacefully with a good house.
5. Bad guys are bad because they start doing bad things, though sometimes they succeed. Then they do more bad things until they fail, then they get caught by police, and are in jail.
6. Everything is possible, and the people that think not everything is possible are a problem for the people that think everything is possible, and it might cause arguments. “Hope is a good thing apparently best of all & good thing never dies.” This line from this movie shows the real truth of what humans need most. ” The Shawshank Redemption ” is based upon the legendary Stephen King’s novel, which describes the very truth of life: never lose hope because it is apparently best of all. Excellent direction by Frank Darabont, impeccable script, screenplay, towering fulfillment by a cast made this movie the worthiest film ever made. Casting is another great thing about this movie. This great movie is absolutely a gem of world cinema. Don’t miss this great movie. It’s a lifetime experience of a kind you won’t ever forget.
In our hearts, there is a place that cannot be locked. That place is called hope, Hope is a dangerous thing For the two people, it is obvious that there is only one place where Andy always contains his enthusiasm and hope for life, and Red obviously loses this hope in such a slow and endless wait. Hope makes me afraid. In every ten years of questioning, he has received the so-called hope, which is refuted again and again, leaving him only endless wait and hope beyond the horizon. It’s sad when a person doesn’t stick to his belief in life and doesn’t even have hope for survival.
When twenty years of unremitting efforts have brought back freedom, the feeling of freedom and hope incisively and vividly in the rain resonates with everyone’s tears.
After twenty years of silent persistence, I don’t know what kind of firm belief makes Andy able to endure so many difficulties and pain and still yearn for a free life.
Few movies in this world are as powerful as The Shawshank Redemption.
The Untold Truth Of The Shawshank Redemption.
Good camerawork, acting, direction and even art setups. I was impressed to watch it again recently.
As a kid I always heard this movie is the top rated movie ever and after watching this i came to know yes it is. The story kept me glued to the T.v. for 2hrs. T first thought of Andy like a serial killer but he turned out be an innocent person who hasn’t murdered his wife even though he spent almost 20years of his life in jail without crying in wain, rebelling and that damn patience.
The Adaptation of the book was great, everyone knows that one cannot cover everything from the book but still the movie is worth a watch.
But it also made me sit like a fool because Andy was such an intelligent guy , breaking through prison with just a rock hammer is a very huge task. And the most important thing was he never justified himself for the crime he has not committed. It is well said that Either be busy living, or be busy Dying.
This well-crafted drama drags your emotions through the wringer, only to have them come out clean & full of hope on the other side. The story is unquestionably compelling and absolutely memorable. In addition, Tim Robbins, Morgan Freeman, and the rest of the cast create a collage of authentic characters that you both love & hate. This is a film that everyone should watch at least once a year to remind themselves of how good it really is.
Such a powerful story portrayed beautifully by the iconic duo consisting of Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman. The Shawshank Redemption is a must watch movie. It’s got one of the greatest and most satisfying endings to a movie ever, iconic and relevant quotes, amazing scenes, brilliant performances and that Morgan Freeman voiceover. Tim Robbins delivers one of the greatest performances by an actor in a leading role as Andy Dufresne (possibly the best).
I rate The Shawshank Redemption so high because of how beautiful and emotionally captivating the storyline is. The only movie I consider greater than The Shawshank Redemption is Schindler’s List. Well, what can one say, I’ve seen it umpty times over the years and it remains one of the best movies ever? Not only is the story gripping but the acting, out of this world mostly. Not only gripping, drama, humor, it has it all.
It is so well played you feel like you are locked up with them.
Get the popcorn out, have a nice cold beer ready, you are going to love this and sit through it in one session! The prison drama is beyond time. The performances of all the characters are excellent. Dialogues keep ringing well after the film has been watched. However what really sets this apart is the game of detachment, hope and determination to think beyond one’s present circumstances. It is too good. A must watch. Rather many times watch.
The Shawshank Redemption is a film about life in the American Shawshank prison, where corruption among guards and management plays a major role. Andy Dufresne, a banker, is sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his wife and her lover. However, he continues to maintain that he is innocent. In Shawshank, after a rough start, he gets to grips with his fellow inmates. One of them is Red, the narrator of the story, who is charmed by Andy’s enormous cleverness.
When Andy asks Red if he can get a geologist’s hammer, Red, who has mates at the laundry, delivers this hammer to Andy. The contact blossoms into a friendship. This is the only movie I have ever decided to rate and I watched many, but there is something about this movie that deeply touches my heart and that something is ultimately the underlying theme of the whole movie, which is hope. Many movies leave you scratching your head because of their complexity or what have you or leave you miserable because of how the characters behave or how the movie ends.
Rarely does a movie leave you smiling for minutes after it ends, wondering about its brilliancy and, above all, leave you fulfilled and glad that you took your precious time to watch it. This is exactly what this movie is, precious and fulfilling, and as such I believe that it is my duty and good will to rate this movie a well-deserved 10/10, for no movie deserves the title of the #1 rated movie as much as The Shawshank Redemption.
This is A movie that changed millions of lives.
It is a true masterpiece of a film. 🙂
