This Conundrum is a mind — changing manifesto about the environment, efficiency, and the real path to sustainability. Hybrid cars, fast trains, compact fluorescent light bulbs, solar panels, carbon footprints: everything you have been told about living green is wrong. We consumers, we like to consume green and efficiently. However, David Owen author of the book: The Conundrum argues that our best efforts are still at cross purposes to our true goal — living sustainably, caring for our environment and future of our planet. Efficiency, once considered the holy grail of our environmental problems, turns out to be part of this vicious circle .
There were times in the distant past when Earth was warmer than it is now. However, human societies have developed and thrived during relative stable climate since the ice age. Today, due to carbon dioxide pollution, the climate is no longer stable and is also projected to change faster at any time in human history (this rapid change will expose people to serious risks) and its a Global issue’.
Higher concentrations of carbon dioxide and the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere causes the earth to warm. While warmer temperatures increase the amount of water vapor in the atmosphere, because water vapor is a gas this leads to even further warming called the greenhouse effect. When a rise in temperature occurs it causes sea levels to rise because of glacier melts and it is a problem that is rising.
A small rise in the sea level can affect many people in a world growing smaller by a greater population, where sea levels have risen approximately 9 inches in the last 140 years. By the year 2100, sea levels is expected to rise another 1.0 to 4 feet. Why should we care: because the generation behind us will have to deal with that outcome through greater risk of claminity and disease… is that what you want for your grand children? 🙁
Sea levels will rise, increasingly more droughts and wildfires in some regions, with more flooding in others; more heat waves and other effects of climate change all pose risk to human health. Also infrastructure including homes, roads, cities and ecosystems along the coastal land will be in great jeopardy while being exposed to the elements.
Climate Change and Ozone Depletion are essentially two separate issues, “The Ozone Hole refers to the destruction of a layer of ozone moles found in Earth’s Atmosphere and when healthy; this layer shields Earth from the sun’s harmful ultra violent rays. As this layer became thinner because of the chemicals called chlorofluorocarbons, once commonly used in products that ranged from spray cans to foam furniture cushions; Are we sure about the chemtrails we are exposing and HAARP t0 future generations?
In the United States: as we look at the county by county Co2 emissions, some might say, there is a correlation to carbon dioxide dispersion and the cancer rates in that area. And ” if “people don’t decide to plant a tree or help conserve this planet, will the human race ~ go the way of dinosaur in this modern time of today; the disappearing honey bee at it’s alarming rate that could play a key part in a major disruption of our food chain.
