Some visitants of this website might stop and think it’s about treatment, although in some of the blog post it does explain options. However more so what Solitarius is about is prevention being key, through the knowledge of knowing facts on cancer and about your options in the world around you through cancer research. When you use the information on the world wide web for useful purposes it can be a powerful tool and should be viewed as a “mega pill” for cancer research.
One of the most important aspects of this website is vitamin deficiencies that’s enshrined through out the website. When you begin to hear that all vitamin deficiencies are the known cause of every known disease known to mankind. You also begin to realize that this “blog post” maybe the basis to this entire website. Because it informs the visitant of the major vitamin deficiencies and their known impact on cancer.
Since dreaming up the concept for this website ….when I think vitamin deficiencies…. I think back to the song Bridge Over Troubled Water and during the course of the last 6 1/2 years. How forever time I came across trouble their always was somebody there to help get me over the troubled water. Let me tell you, “I’m eternally gratiful because I never learned how to swim literally and figuratively.”
In that time of space 6 1/2 years there always was someone there to see me through…. one of the most popular topics was vitamin deficiencies and “if” your NOT feeling right ….you should have your levels checked by a doctor. First off let’s talk Vitamin A pushing, promoting and even inciting cancer growth, as a few researchers claim that vitamin A, in test tube vitro study experiments will push stem cells to change into cells that build blood vessels.
So when structure similar to blood vessels develope within tumor masses grown in culture, researchers concluded vitamin A promotes carcinogensis activity. However to the contrary, “when a study published in the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry found that by administering both vitamin A and vitamin C together to cultured human breast cancer cells.”
They were more then three times as effective than the administration of either compound alone (since) when the combination of these two vitamins in synergy inhibited proliferation by 75.7 percent compared to untreated cells. The author of this study suggest, “that the synergestic effect observed in this study is due in part to the ascorbic acids, thereby increasing the cells proliferation inhibitory effects.”
The association of vitamin A and cancer was initially reported in 1926, when rats fed a vitamin A deficient diet; developed gastric carcinomas. The first investigation showing a relationship between vitamin A and human cancer was performed in 1941 by Abelsetal. Who found low plasma vitamin A levels in patients with gastro – intestinal cancer.
Dr. Jennifer Brett comments that vitamin A fights cancer by inhibiting the production of DNA in cancerous cells. It also slows down the tumor growth in established cancer and may keep leukemia cells from dividing. A derivative of the vitamin has been shown to kill the CEM-C7 human lymphoblastoid leukemia cells and P1798 murine T lymphoma cells.
Being cancer thrives in a vitamin deficient environment…. here is another example: why cancer generates itself in a vitamin deficient state. Vitamin C is required for our immune system to generate and mobilize the specialized cells that fight cancer and other infections. Likewise the more stress your immune system is under… the more vitamin C is used and puts the immune system even under more stress from lacking this critical vitamin.
Secondly, cancer cells excrete the substance; called hyaluronidase that breaks down the collagen and fibers that make up the structure of this base substance which creates the space needed for tumors to grow. Vitamin C is required for the development of collagen and this fibrous material that is important to all tissue related problems, such as, disc injuries, also gum problems, and even musco skeleton issues). Vitamin C also is required for elastin synthesis which is responsible for the health of blood vessels…. safe guarding against vascular disease.
The B – vitamins, especially folate ( which is the synthetic form of folic acid), which is required for synthesis of DNA, and there is evidence that decreased availability of folate results in strands of DNA that are more suspectible to damage. Thereby, deficiencies in B12 traps folate into a form that is then unusable by the body for DNA synthesis (this may lead to an elevated rate of DNA damage and altered methylation of DNA) both of which are important risk factors for cancer.
With the strongest relationship of cancer to vitamin deficiency being a lack of vitamin D, clinical studies have shown vitamin D deficiency to be associated with four of the most common types of cancer (breast, prostate, colon and skin). It is well established that vitamin D (vitamin D3) acts as an effective regulator of cell growth and differentation in a number of different cell including cancer cells. (The Vitamin D Solution by Dr.Michael Holick.)
Vitamin D…. may also go beyond cancer prevention and provide also tumor therapy by providing pharmaceutical angiogensis inhibitors that inhibits the growth of undesirable blood vessels that tumors require for nutrient supply and growth. Thereby Vitamin E is important for the body because it functions as an antioxidant. Because reactive oxygen species damage cells and other substances in the body, vitamin E helps to prevent cell damage and helps cell membrane recover from oxidative stress.
Vitamin E, also important for the functioning of a strong immune system and has been found to regulate your bodies metabolism, therefore, gene expression and cell signaling. Vitamin E deficiencies are more common in people whom are following a low fat diet, as vitamin E needs fat to be properly absorbed. Also when fish oil supplements are being used which contain omega – 3 fatty acids for a variety of health benefits. Be careful for vitamin E deficiencies because omega -3 ….has a tendency to create one.
One risk of consuming fish oil is that it can lead to a deficiency of this crucial vitamin, which the only well constructed scientific study regarding the effects of fish oil on vitamin E…. was published ….in a 1991 issue of …. “The Journal of Nutrition.” This study found women whom consume fish oil supplements had a reduced level of vitamin E in their body and that this vitamin E deficiency occurred even though the fish oil supplement that the women were taking contained a small amount of vitamin E.
The loss of vitamin E was more pronounced in women between the ages of 51 and 71 years. The oil in omega – 3 fatty acids, a type of fat important for proper function of your body. Omega – 3 fatty acids are also critical for the general health of the nervous system, also affect blood clotting and the metabolism of fat. If you are concerned about vitamin E deficiency talk to your doctor. Blood test can determine…. if you have abnormal low vitamin levels which could require supplements.
Before closing out on this “blog post, another heavy weight mineral to consider is selenium: providing additional cancer prevention through antioxidant protection. Dr. Bruce Ames of the Children’s Hospital Oakland Research Institute determined that selenium – dependent proteins deprived of this essential mineral pave a path toward chronic disease.
Dr. Ames subscribes to the newly developed “triage theory,” that explains why age related diseases like heart disease, cancer and dementia may have unintended consequences of the mechanisms developed during the evolution to protect against any vitamin/mineral shortages. There are twelve seleno-proteins of which five are considered essential and seven known to be non essential to human health.
Interestingly enough, an analysis of the available studies conclude that it is the non essential selenoproteins ….that may be the most important in determining optimal health or progression toward most chronic illnesses. Extensive research confirm the critical nature of selenium in the prevention of cancer. As it supports the normal immune function to halt aberrant cell growth. While also information published in the Journal Biochemistry…. found there are two types of selenium known as SeMet and MeSeCys that are processed to provide a chemo protective shield.
Researchers working to determine the ability of selenium to prevent breast cancer found that the MeSeCys form of selenium was significantly more effective at also protecting against the insidious disease compared to the SeMet versions of the mineral. The study found that breast cancer cells processed the two different forms of selenium differently leading to the protective nature of the MeSeCys form.
Recommended daily intake levels of selenium are 55 mcg., making many people deficient due to inadequate diet. Nutritionist recommend 200 mcg., for optional disease protection, however, you never really hear specified between MeSeCys and SeMet forms. Health minded individuals will want to ensure supplementing to help prevent cancer and heart disease.
