In unison all organs work together…. so why not lump them together in the same blog post, tell of the importance of each to one’s health and well being. Last summer I had an experience…. first hand account of the importance of calcium, potassium, magnesium and how all three work off sodium levels.
In such a destructive manner it plays on the kidneys of the elderly as we age (my aunt and godmother had renal failure and a pretty site it was not.) Kind of gripping…. how hemodialysis works given the extent of the damage when you put off the inevitable.
It’s unfortunate when you enter into your 80s…. 90s and all the time you endure waiting in lines while splitting the cost at an estimated $250,000.00 annually for dialysis to purify your blood. Renal failure is classified as the decrease in glomerular filtration rate, which can be detected by elevated creatinine levels.
Problems frequently encountered in kidney malfunction include abnormal fluid levels of the body (deranged acid levels with abnormal levels of calcium, potassium, phosphate and magnesium.) All these deficiency add up to only one thing for the patient and spells TROUBLE (kidney cancer?)
Depending on the cause, hematuria (which is blood loss in the urine) and proteinuria (protein loss in the urine) may occur. Either way it can lead to anemia and eventually congestive heart failure for the patient. This did get me thinking…. with high sodium levels making this kind of impact on your health as we age could it cause cancer.
Kidney Cancer: what a high sodium diet has been shown to assist in is the Helicobacter pylori bacteria associated with 90% of all duodenal and 80% of gastric ulcers. A high sodium environment also increases the expression of two genes in H.pylori that can and will produce the proteins associated with bacteria’s virulence factor. Facts about Prostate Cancer.
Even worse, high dietary sodium levels have shown to be significant risk factors for bladder, gastric and prostate cancers. Whether or not H.pylori plays a role in the increased incidence of cancer remains to be determined.
However its clear that with or without the bacteria, chronically high salt intake will raise your chances of contracting some very nasty type cancers. Although, once that happens there are “NEW Fangled,” approaches and some treatments worthy of consideration (Nycrobotics, Davinci Surgery, St. Vincents and St. Joes. The dwindling honey bees????
